OK drummers, help me out. I am buying a used kit for my studio, $400-700 price range. What should I look for? I see Pearl Exports and Tama Rockstars are most prevelant. Thanks.

Like the Pearl Fx 22-5 series at $525.00.
I like the low mass lugs and the joint construction of the set. Or for approx $575.00 look into the Yamaha DP2F5 5-piece
which uses an air seal system for thier shells. Just my 1 1/2 cent's worth :)

Yamaha or Premier....
Both are nice kits. Happy hunting. :)

Tama Rockstars kick some serious butt, and some of the yamaha stuffs not bad either...

I would choose Ludwig Accent, my man. They are extremely well built, and you can get a small kit for about $500, new.
Cymbals not included. Go with a Zildjian starter pack for that...

Those are all good kits. My suggestion would be, if it's for a studio stay away from covered drums. I would pay the little extra for a nice lacquer finish for 2 reasons: 1. sustain and tone 2. durability. As for cymbals...stay away from Zildjians Scimitars and ZBT's. ghastly (that's my oppinion anyway) You might consider used cymbals since their resale is HIGHLY depreciated from new cost. Look out for chips or cracks of any kind, warping, flat spots, and keyholing at the hole in the bell of the cymbal. Good luck...

and this one's for Csus7...
I would consider a jazz sized setup (18" kick, 8" 10" racks, and 14" floor tom) they'll be easier for him to reach and as he grows you can adjust accordingly...you'll likely find that they'll also accomadate you. As for markup...the markup on drums is insanely stupid. Thats how you get 40-50% off on cymbals etc. None the less, for comparison I payed $700 for a Pearl Export w/hardware (tom mounts, pedal, boom stand and straight stand, snare and stand) Play the "I can get it for this price here" game with them. If there is a Guitar Center near you get them involved because they love to cut people out of a sale, even if it means selling at almost cost. ps-EARPLUGS. :)
