underated guitarist

Wow,willypriv I didn't think anyone would list jerry garcia.About the only thing anyone says about him or the dead is that they all did acid.lol,Which is true but I felt it always took away from the best part of garcia which was his playing. And he plyed alot go check out his work with ornette coleman, and it was ornette himself who asked garcia to record with him.Pretty good accolade for a guy thats only known for his drug consumption. Also, although he is somewhat famous I think john mclaughlin is seriously underatted.
Just my opinions though
peace ....Andrew

dragonworks, it's Johnny Winter, not Winters... unless you're talking about somebody other than the albino blues guitarist from Texas, brother of Edgar Winter...

I believe that the guy who played the "Valerie" solo was Louie Shelton, who also played the tasty fills and solo on "Diamond Girl" by Seals and Croft. He is one of Larry Carlton's fav players.

Micheal Gurley from dada, just brilliant.

Elloit Easton (cars) doesn't get the I LOVE U's that he should either, great lead composer!

Whoever played guitar for Jellyfish, very cool. Jason Faulkner and Lyle Workman.

Jerry Cantrell (Alice In Chains) very moody.

Billy Corgan/Iha......I love the stuff.

Thanks for the question!

How about drummers?

I have to say...

Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath. The inventors of heavy metal.
This man is an amazing guitar player, especially when he has two of his digits (and they're his fret board fingers. O_O) cut off due to a sheet metal working accedent. He has to use these leather things on his fingers. He had to learn to play OVER AGAIN just to play. And now he plays things I've only heard Jimi Hendrix done before. And creates these increadible heavy riffs for all these songs. Sure he gets the recongnition he deserves in the heavy metal world, but outside of it, he definetly needs more. It's thanks to him that heavy metal came into exsistance!

Ditto, jeffteel on Bugs Henderson.I first heard him with the old Texas band Nitzinger in the '70s.I saw him do a blues trio in Atlanta at Blues Harbor a few years ago,and he absolutely smoked.
The guitarist with Spooky Tooth was good too----I can't really recall his name.

Craig Ross...you know?....the real guitarist behind Lenny Kravitz. Seen the guy live & he just flowwwsssss.

Q. What does Madonna & Kravitz have in common?
A. They both have very little talent but know how to market themselves by expoilting things & people.

Another underrated player------Ricky Hirsch, from the original Wet Willie.Such a blues player! I saw him in Joan Armatrading's band once, and he is really a tasty player..........anyone know what he's doing now?

I wouldn´t make a "Podium" out of the subject,co´s there´s so many ways on guitar playing styles, but cames to my mind the name of JASON BECKER, it´s 1st recording "Perpectual Burn" is truly visionary, and the guy was only age nineteen at the time!
It´s a shame what happened to him,a real lost for all artistic natures out there,...i think...

Hey Chernman, I don't think anyone else has mentioned Lyle Workman. Really great player. I think he's still playing with Beck, but I used to see him play around San Francisco in a band called Bourgeous Tagg. They put out two albums which absolutely rock. Check them out if you can.

although i am not a huge listener of an array of guitarists and their styles, i believe that Cliff Gallup who played for Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps did some amazing licks

The band "Storyville", has two great guitar players: David Grissom and David Holt. This band also Chris Layton on drums and Tommy Shannon on bass, (fomerly with Stevie Ray Vaughan - Double Trouble.)
