Best "TINY" Monitors

Hey guys,

I would like to get a second set of monitors to help me A/B mixes and to make sure my mixes sound good on a variety of systems. Right now I have the M Audio BX8's. I plan on upgrading those to something nicer but they are fine for right now.

At the moment though I'm looking to add a smaller pair of active monitors. Back in college the studio used to have Yamaha NS-10's and everyone says that if you mix sounds good on those then it sounds good anywhere. Well, those cost a fortune at the moment and they are not passive. What would you guys suggest for second set of little monitors so I can make sure my mixes sound decent even on the sh*ttiest of boom boxes or whatever?

Whatchyall use?

I use NS-10's and my trusty RS Minimus 7's. I also run mixes through my big JBL's (can't remember the model number) when I want to to hear 'em really loud.
 
I have KRK RP-8s as my main monitors. I also have a pair of Panasonic boom box speakers and a pair of Akai 3-way floor speakers hooked up to a kenwood reciever.

They give a good idea of what it will sound like.
 
I use modified Paradigm Phantoms (bookshelf version) and My Rat Shack Minimus 7W's which sound pretty good I must say. I may just modify the 7w's as well.
 
OK, looking back at my post I'm thinking WTF? I must have been tired, but you confused me, theodd, by saying the NS-10's are not passive. If they aren't then how come I have a Crown amp powering them?

Also - A lot of people (pro's and non alike) still love their little Auratone cube speakers, but they're not cheap. I hope to get a pair one day.

BTW Sorry to nitpick, but "type-o" is a blood type.

"Typo" is short for "typographical error."

Unless you keyboard has blood all over it. Then "type-o" is OK.
 
i have a pair of EDIROL MA-10D monitors they are pretty good, i use them with my mbox
 
here is the best thing to do for a low cost and also to see how your mixes sound through worse speakers. Go to habitat for humantiy or goodwill and buy some passive old stereo speakers and just switch to them after using your nice monitors to see how it sounds through poor speakers. It costs about 20 dollars and it is a great reference
