After taking my mixes in a car, which I mixed with computer speakers. I decided they needed major work. So I would like to invest in some studio monitors, could anyone recommend anything in the 400-500$ price range?

Definitely go with the RP-5 or the RP-6. I currently have the RP-5 but don't have them up and running yet because I am working on building a studio of sorts. Apparently the RP-6 have a little better lower response (well, obviously, a bigger woofer). I guess it depends on your room.

But for the money, the KRK RP line, you can't go wrong.

I don't think you can go wrong with the KRK either.

I like the YSM1P, but their hard to find in a store around here. I've had them for a couple or three years and they've done well in side by sides with $1200 speakers.

Though you really need to pick a few sets and then do some serious listening.
Like SouthsideGlen and others stated, get something you like to listen too because you'll be married to these suckers! So true.
No matter what you get you'll have to "learn" them in your room and at different volumes etc... somewhat.

Shipping speakers is a hassle, so if I had to grab some KRK seem to be safe buy and never see, if any, repair problems with them.

just off the top of my head. good luck.. then go to the DIY forum and make some stands!:D

How about the brand new KRK's Rokit G2 (Generation 2) that are coming out in about two weeks?

NS-10's can be found for around $400 now...you'll have to throw down a couple bills for an amp, but it'd be well worth it

I like the KRK's myself. I have a pair of RP5's that do a nice job. They are a little lacking in the very low end but they still have a nice solid sound, just the very deep notes are a little hard to hear.

KRK's are pretty nice, go with the 6's over the 5's as they aren't much more. There will be a learning curve with new monitors, but good monitors are a MUST if you wanna make anything decent
