nope
i have a pearl 14" maple free-floating piccolo snare, and today i put an evans vented coated head on it, and i've never heard anything better. i still have to use a dampening ring on it, but so what? i'm just so impressed with this thing i had to share...

If you are refering to the HD dry, if you line up the vents with the lugs (as best you can) it will dampen the head a little more.

hey, thanks for the tip! that makes sense, didn't even think about that. really, the only reason i'm still using the dampener is it kills that tiny bit of "ring" i get. maybe if i line the things up (i suppose it's always best to actually read the box you got something in when it's a new product) like you said, even that tiny bit will disappear. but it's still the dryest, most bad-ass snare sound i've ever heard. again, thanks!

yeah that head does rock. ive been using it for a couple years now on both my snares.

hey fucktard, that's my avatar.........sorta! nice originality!

hey calm down buddy. Ive had that avatar for months now and this is the first time ive seen yours, and i assume this is the first time youve seen mine as you just said something? surely you can survive, youve been fine for this whole time ive had it.

No, he may not survive. He's kinda whiney and complains a lot.

I've been trying to get to the meetings, but some fucktard gave me the wrong directions......

And I'll have to try that head out. I use Coated Ambassadors, and Clear Emporers currently.

I dont like those vented heads, they dried out the snare way too much. I prefer the Reverse Power Dot or whatever that Evans head is called.

It's a matter of taste. I tried the reverse powerdot on my free floater, I can't stand it.

Wow...I saw the thread title and just knew it was about the Evans genera HD dry. I love using these heads on snares with ringing problems, but can't stand them on already-kinda-dead snares. I have a 8" deep 14" 7-ply maple snare that sounds like garbage with any other head, but is all-around goodness with the HD dry.

I also like to use one on the 14" floor tom on my jazz kit to get a nice tone without too much sustain.

So, to anyone who hasn't tried the HD dry's: they are worth your time and money.

Evans Dry Vents!!!!!

I first started using them about 6 or 7 years ago and I can't imagine I would ever want to use anything else.
