Abe Cunningham of the Deftones on "Digital Bath" from the album White Pony. I don't know what kind of snare it is, but I've heard he likes Carbon Fiber shells.

Tool

I like Dany Carrey's snare sound on Aenema. Even though for most of the tracks he has the snares off it still sounds great complimenting the kit.

dave weckl's snare on chick corea's eletric band's cd "beneth the mask"
well....any weckl or patitucci cd will sound good snare wise.
everything that ive heard bernie kersh from mad hatter studios do is amazing.

Fave drum sound ever? Weezer's Pinkerton. I don't really like the band but the drums on that record kick ass.

worst drum sound ever? Metallica's Saint Anger. I'm sure It's deliberatly bad but.....c'mon its pretty rough.

I'll second the pinkerton nod. I like the drums on that, very raw.

I've also always liked the snare sound that bush has on there first album, the song "Little Things" is a good example. Very low, meaty snare.

Weezer

I agree on the Weezer "pinkerton". What about the "Green Album"? I realise your not a Weezer fan but come on!!! Or what about the latest "Converge" album ?

which was the last converge record? the last one I heard was pettioning the empty sky . my problem with the drums wasn't so much the sound, I just really dislike blast beats and its hard for me to look past that.

Steve Ferrone on Tom Petty's Wildflowers album, playing "House In The Woods"...

Adam Topple on Jack Johnson's "Brushfire Fairytales" album (all songs!)

Matt Cameron on Soundgarden's Down on the Upside Album, playing "Never Named"

Bonham on Stairway...

One of my very favorites is Vinnie Colaiuta's snare sound on the Zappa '79 tour material, much of which can be found scattered across the You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore series. Also big ups to Stewart Copeland's sound in general. The sound of the kit overall on The Mars Volta's album De-Loused In The Comatorium is very pleasing to me as well.

Shattered (Stones)

The sound of the snare in "Shattered" (Rolling Stones) is complete perfection. Anyone know how they got it?

Charlie Watts probably can't even remember that one!

:)

Pink Floyd-The Wall. Greatest snare sound yet. Totally crisp and punchy.

Best Snare

I like Ginger Baker's sound on the Masters of Reality CD Sunrise on the Sufferbus. From the first cut to the last he puts on a clinic of how to drum and how they should sound. I also love most of Ian Paice's kit sounds on the early Deep Purple albums (think Machine Head, Fireball and Burn) and Richie Hayward from Little Feat (all of Feets Don't Fail Me Now). Not only do the play great, but they sound incredible.

Bill L

best ive ever heard, carter beauford of Dave Matthews Band, on crash, particularly on "tripping billies"

Another one popped up...pretty much all the snares on Concrete Blonde "Mexican Moon."

I've allways liked the sound of Train in Vain by the Clash,(later copyed by Garbage in Stupid Girl), for the time it sounded great.

Amen, grizlo!

Oh yes, and Butch Vig, how can u forget some of those wonderful snare tracks.
