best place to buy a domain name???

It's time to get our website up. there are so many sites selling domain names at a wide range of prices with a wide variety of services. Who would you use and why? :confused:

Rock-bottom prices, free domain registration for the first year - It's like $6 a month for 150MB and 5GB transfer. Insane. I have several sites up with them.

I use alterhosting.com.......6.99 a month for 300meg, 300 emails, unlimited traffic and free domain name...also, 2 months free if you pay for a year.

69.90 total....not bad
 
I'm hosting sites on bananic.com. domain registration and hosting for a year cost me like $40. 8 Gb/month of bandwidth, can't remember the storage size but it was more than I needed.

Really, it depends what you want. If you just want to get the URL and host it yourself, that's one thing. If you want the whole hosting/domain registration/email/etc. in one convenient package, that's another.

I have business relationships with local companies that I'd like to use for hosting and design so I think I'm just looking for the URL.

surely they can buy the URL for you? Take your pick, really, there are any number of services that will get you your URL.
 
I asked the same question here a couple of months back and someone whose judgement i trusted suggested 'godaddy'.

I bought the .COM for $6.95 or so and the .NET was a little more expensive, per annum. There are reductions for paying in advance from 1 year up to 10 years i think.

They seem OK, as far as i can tell.

only saying it starts at 2GB space and 30GB traffic for like $5 a month.. they've just doubled space and traffic on all accounts, INSANE! :eek:

i've been with alot of guys and only been disappointed until i found them, best service i've ever experienced. (no i dont get paid for praising them :D)

Thanks for the heads up about Bottomlinecom.net. They look like a good deal and are probably the company I'll use. What are the sites that you have up with them? I'd like to see what they can do before I buy.

Nothing super special on any of these sites... Ones that I know are on their servers are...

Those are off the top of my head... I should probably rephrase the "I have several sites" to "I've set several companies and people up with sites" also. I maintain a handful up there and a few other hosts... They're my favorite.
