hello im quite new to this studio stuff but im really looking for a pc or mac that
can handles at least 20 midi and/or tracks together without freezing because of the cpu power.
it is really annoying when you want to record more than a certain amount (lets say 14) of midi and/or audio tracks in cubase 5 but you just cant because the cpu power or whatever component is not good enough.
which pc/mac would suit me best???

1 gb ram
intel pentium 4 3.40 ghz
64 bit w7 ultimate
about 160 gb hdd with 7200 rpm
tascam 144 mkii interface

To put things in perspective, your CPU is about the same speed as the CPU in my iPhone 5. Any computer with any current-generation Intel CPU is going to be anywhere from 5-20x as fast as your current machine. Hope that helps.

Any i5/i7 chip of any generation is almost certainly going to be capable of what you're trying to do.

Keep in mind, by jumping to i*, you've completely skipped out the core2* generation of intel cpus.
You're talking about advancing 6 or 7 years. :)

I have an i5 2.3ghz MBP and it does what I ask of it, except getting me coffee.

Hi, im running a old hp xeon 3.2 single core server to run my protools rig, i have no probs tracking 16 live tracks @4800/24, even with a lot of plugs running. but protools does the dsp, and most other crap, on the pci cards, only thing i had hastles with was disk in/out, i set ap a scsi raid array, prob solved. just saying another way to look at this is, keep your pc, upgrade your interface. No dont, get a flash pc, im only on the old xeon because thats the best box my hardware is compatible with. :p
