Hi, I've just dug up my brothers old nylon guitar, and it's actually pretty good, but desperately in need of new strings. I was wondering if you had any recommendations for brands etc? Thanks!
Savarez are the best, but many players also like the Lisa strings (good luck finding them though). Augustine, GHS, and D'Addario also make a fine quality string.
If you are using it for folk/blues/pop as opposed to classical, then I recommend D'Addario composites. They cost a little more but they last 2-3x as long and the sound is bright, full, balanced.
Lately I've been using the bulk strings (usually made by Martin) from stringthis.com - about $12 for 4 sets. They come in sealed plastic and aren't rolled up and seem to be fresher.
Savarez strings are more sensitive to temperature and the wound strings will come apart in temps over 100.
I use d'addarios. I put a cheaper set of string on my classical right before a recital and they screwed my guitar up- pulled the action up and bowed the neck which made everything horribly out of tune. My recital went horrible. The next week I pulled off the cheap strings and put a set of normal tension d'addarios on and it fixed the problem. There was a huge difference in the quality of the tone too. If you have a truss rod, I would get the hard tension, but if not I would use the normal tension.
Cool I just bought a set of D'addarios. They keep going out of tune, but they SOUND good Thanks all (And yes I know it will go out of tune after just putting em on )
