hey guys can anyone recommend me a decent cheap set of monitors around the 100 euro mark

they're not fantastic but Behri MS40's will be better than using logic or other computer hardwear..they're self powered, 40W, 24 bit, have a coxial input, and have half decent highs and mids...the bass is weak but at least they will be new (lets face it 100 euros isnt going to do brilliantly for top used gear) much better than similar hi fi speakers.....they are about 90 euros

To be honest Id buy a pair of cheaper studio headphones and save a bit of cash for KRK Rockets (maybe nearer the 200 euro mark) or such like..I know what budget demands though

Edirol MA-7A should be good (E104.81). I have the MA-15D (E168.87) and they are brilliant!!! Edirol is a Roland product so has a good parent company. Prices quoted are from Dawsons Warrington UK. Here is a spec.
■Bass Enhancer
■Front-accessible Volume & Tone Control
■Sub woofer output port for bass boost
■7 W per channel desktop monitor (pair)
■76 mm (3 ") full-range speaker, bass-reflex enclosure
■2 independent source input; 1/8" Line and RCA pin Line (L/R)
■1/8" headphones port
■Magnetically-shielded

The best ones are used good monitors...but many times they can be passive...you might go ahead and use some stereo stuff you allready have untill you get 200 euros...you dont want to skimp on this kind of thing.

Forgot about them...definitely a bit better than the Behri's...not sure about bass enhancers though

yup 200 euros should be a minimum...this is about the only area I'll agree that it is a waste to spend lower then upgrade...decent monitors change the whole way you hear your music.

Note this date in your diary haha ;)

Cheers man maby i will take your advice and just get a half decent set or headphones for now and save up a few pound for the monitors any ideas on a fairly cheap decent pair of headphones i seen ones on ebay here http://cgi.ebay.ie/AKG-K-44-STUDIO-...ones?hash=item1c0c4cc092&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 the one im using now are here http://cgi.ebay.ie/Creative-Fatalit...s?hash=item33559cf231&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177 in your opinion will the akg ones be a lot better for monitoring or would i be better off using the ones i have for now

keep the ones you have if that's the choice and save for those monitors...to be honest the specs and price are so similar that I doubt the difference would be that noticeable imo

Id say for the extra tenner these would be a better bet

http://cgi.ebay.ie/BEHRINGER-HPS-50...ones?hash=item2556324464&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

No i dont work for the company lol, I just know these ones worked better than a $200 pair of Bose headphones I first started using...the guys here may have better suggestions

but again you could always save...you get your mixes half decent with what you've got and you could always tweak them to perfection later..

saying that Ive never managed perfection yet...if you do get there tell me how :)

100 euros not quit enough

I would maybe recommend getting a pair of Behringer 1C's they are £40 but are passive, as darrin said I think saving up is a better option maybe get some Alesis Active Monitor MK2's £250.. you could use the 1 C's with a hi fi amp if you have one to get a short term boost of quality whilst you save up for better active monitors... The 1 C's are actually quit nice and if you have a sub you can get a reasonably monitoring set up well cheap! They are 100 watts each!!!

Otherwise check out the studio spares:

Only £120!!! Very powerful for the price!

Or there are the passive versions of the Alesis monitor MKII's They are £100 for a pair and sound really nice!

STAY AWAY FROM BEHRINGER Truth B2031A's a waste of money Alesis better in this price range...
Good luck

I'm hooked on NS10M's. The thing with a monitor isn't so much that they sound good but that they are a known world standard so your mixes won't be out in left field.

I wouldn't buy any of this Alesis, Edirol or Behringer stuff, no way.

I'd go with a set of Sony home stereo speakers before that in a heartbeat. I have a cheap Sony boombox I trust about the same as my Yamaha's.

Even the cheapest Sony stuff has millions of dollars of R&D behind it. Nothing I've ever heard from Sony is terrible.

With speakers, heavy usually sounds good. So find yourself 3 or 4 sets of cheap speakers and make a speaker selector switch.

Is there a craigslist in europe?...Im allways seeing excellent sets of monitors on my local site...many times going for about the same ammount as those others new...and if you wanted to settle for the Behringers or Alesis you can also save a bunch when someone else is upgrading...be sure and dicker them down a few bucks.

Trust me on this...Ive never paid full price in my life.

I love that philosophy!

A friend of mine recently said that buying anything new, like cars, mics, drums etc... is for people who don't know what they're buying.

Outside of toilet paper and underwear, I'd say that's probably true.

craigslist hasn't really hit it off in Europe...because if you go around to a strangers house they'll more than likely kill you then eat your remains..

ebays the only real option

The only thing Id say is monitors are one of the few things I buy new...just because you don't know how hard the previous owners pushed them

Thanks for the advice everyone i really appreciate it i will just save up a bit i think and buy somethin decent rather than buying something i will not be happy with after a few months. And again thanks for the advice.
