i'm new to analog recording and i'd like to know what's the best (best 5?) mics to record live guitar...my band is just one guitar and drums and we record it live in one take...i'm looking for a vintage sound...kinda like hendrix, zeppelin and old jamaican sound like augustus pablo and old marley...not much distortion, alternating a crunchy bluesy sound and clean reggae/dub sound...
your help would be very helpfull...thanks alot...

i like the Sennheiser e609 good clean or distorted. Sometimes i use an AKG 414 in conjunction with it a few feet back. But mainly just the e609 lately

An sm57 is always a safe way to go. They sound great, they are built like a tank, can be used on anything from guitar to vocals and are cheap.
You will always have a use for it in one way or another.

If you have good pres, and don't mind spending a bit more on a quality mic, try a Beyer M201

I recommend a ribbon.

Beyerdynamic M160
Coles 4038

Either are what the big names use for recording guitar cabs these days AND in the 60s. It's the real deal. Honest.
