ART MPA GOLD $299 street

The ART MPA GOLD 2-Channel Tube Pre is one to consider!
Ive read that by changing out the tubes makes it an even better vaule than what it is initially!
BG/HSG

i was possibly looking into a dmp3 as a small upgrade over my behringer board so i could then use my board for band practice. but before i do so i was wondering what exactly is rnp and rnc preamps? i hear them being talked alot bout here but they dont show up when i search for them on instrument sites.

I bought the ART Pro Channel for 300 bucks...The comp and EQ seem worth that much, but the tube pre is too clean...Not enuff tube....All n all, it takes up too much rack space for what it offers...But price wise, it's not bad.

Little news note for you older guys: Peavey's Don Boomer tells me they are seriously considering reintroducing the VMP-2...That's their 6 tube / two channel unit that is no longer in production, but hoarded buy the lucky few than can find one.....Only problem is they will list it between 1200-1400 bucks.

you dont need 1,000 bucks to get a world class pre. I own millennias and have used grace, hardy, GML, and DACS, and gordon......save up 700 bucks for the DAV BG-1..

Many engineers on multiple boards who spend multithousand dollars on gear are just confused that the DAV can sound as good or better than their porticos, millennias, etc...and keep trying to find flaws in the testing method when there are comps posted. Elitist all the way! I OWN expensive preamps and had I known that the DAV was out there, I wouldnt have wasted my money on these "names". Mick, the designer, worked for 28 years at decca as a equipment engineer. The heads there wanted a great pre, but wanted something different than all the other stuff that was going around at the time. This the BG-1 was born. An ancient version of this preamp was used to replace the pres(neve) on Deccas big console. the early version just had one switch.
the DAV wont make your internet dick bigger and wont win any fashion shows, but ill be damned if it isnt a world class preamp. 680 shipping and about 60-70 for customs, and youll have a damn fine 2 channel pre. just ask the chicago symphony orchestra, classical recordings, sonore recordings, decca (the record label),http://www.abbasrecords.com/index.htm , David Gilmour and Mark Knopfler.

there is finally a clean, detailed, 3d, HUGE sounding preamp that is reasonably affordable and is literally on par or better than the big name brands.

www.davelectronics.com/bg1.htm

you wont find it on any retailers inventories because Mick wont allow retailers to sell it, because he knows it would drive the price too high for the "everyman".

Focusrite TrakMaster Pro at $299

I'm getting some real nice sounds using a Focusrite TrakMaster Pro with a CAD M9 tube mic on vocals and acoustic guitar.
Ran bass guitar through the TMP and squashed it and it sounded nice as well.

I've Heard of the M-AUDIO BUDDY pre amp, is it worth the money?

Anyone ever try one?

My vote goes to buying a couple discrete Yamaha PM1000 channel strips and having them racked up. I'm guessing that it will cost around $300 to do that, and the mic pres will be infinitely better than anything listed in the poll. My PM1000's regularly get picked over my Neve 1272's, and I got a full console for $400 shipped. Granted, you're not going to find one for that cheap anymore, as the word is out on these things.

Joe Meek

I got a 3Q for $199. Its not for everything but it definitely has its own color and sounds great with certain types of voices. Not much luck with acoustic instruments though.

There's NO doubt in my mind. I tried the PreSonus models (and believe me I'm a huge PreSonus fan) but the ART TPS-II won out. I've been thrilled at what it does for vocals on my Rode mics, as well as miking my Martin acoustic with a Sennheiser e614. All around it is super quiet, sweet, warm and all that good stuff. Superb with the adjustable impedance adjustment and valve voicing. I say go for the ART!

After reading this whole thread, i'm confused on what i want now. I was going to get the dmp3, but people talk like the rane is a little bit better. I don't need two channels of preamps so the rane would suit me better, but i just care about the sound quality. Also, how would i run the rane to the inputs on my m-audiophile 2496? The rane has an xlr output. I know how i'd run the dmp3 if i got that one but i want the best quality.

Nevermind. I won't be getting either one of them now. On the way to the store, my heater hose busted (anti-freeze squirting everywhere) and i had to pay right at 100 bucks to get it fixed. Then, the gas light came on. I won't be gettin that rane for a couple of weeks now.

studio projects makes a killer tube pre amp for 100.00. Its got great reveiws
I bought one and want another its got a tube blender on it and sounds fuhcin
awsome. its got some thing like 60db of gain

Hey, does anyone of you have experience with Mindprint TRIO?

http://mindprint.de/cms.php?scr=products&mode=1&r=p&pr_kat=7&trio=spdif
http://mindprint.de/cms.php?scr=products&mode=1&r=p&pr_kat=7&trio=usb

I'd be able to get either one the SPDIF or USB model for about $340 and was just wondering if they're a good deal.

Alternately I've been also looking at Focusrite Platinum TrakMaster Pro which would cost me $354

So basically I'd get a good discount from Mindprint product since I live in Europe, and the discount on Focusrite wouldn't be as good. Nonetheless, I think Focusrite might be better purchase in the end, however...

well, I just decided that it's better not to purchase either one of those cheap preamps... I'll just use my old Behringer Mic100, which is ok... I'll later on get a higher quality preamp, since there's not much point in wasting my money to another cheap preamp, right?

You'd notice a difference with those over the Behri, but yeah, I have to agree. No use driving yourself nuts deciding which $300 mic pre is the best. Wait awhile and spend your time deciding which $700-$1000 mic pre is best. :D
