Listen to Michael.

Although Gidge's suggestions are quite good, the two condensers he
mentioned both need phantom power which will cost you extra.

The SM57 and 545 are both fine microphones, and have been used
on many hit records. A nice used example of each will run about $60
and $50 (US) respectively on e-bay.

SM 57

Listen to Harvey, Blue Bear, Michael, Chessparov, MrZekeMan, (did I forget anyone?) and add me to the list. Very rarely do you get that many people in agreement on these pages. Take their good advice.

I don't know anything about the ATM-41A but let me offer you a little bit of advice.

1) Take anything a sales weasel tells you with a grain of salt. Not that they can't be helpful, they can. But for the most part, they just want to sell you something that has a nice profit margin for them.

2) If you are just looking for a vocal mic that is good for YOUR voice, then go audition some and buy the cheapest one that sounds decent. In your price range, that may just be an sm57 anyway.

3) If you are looking for an all purpose mic, the sm57 will be the best mic at any price. It just so happens it is also within your price range. It's noted as being about the best mic value by almost everyone, and is the first serious mic purchase by a lot of folks.

It's not the best mic on every source, but unlike most mics, it won't really suck on anything, IMO.

depends on your budget...about the cheapest youll get is $79 US for a Midiman Audio Buddy...2 channels and you can use dynamic or condenser mics......
