Best Limiter Plug-In?

What's the best software Limiter...who uses what (among our members); & why?

I need a DirectX or VST (SONAR XL 2.2 compatible) plug in...something I can place across individual tracks (or the V mains), to give me a nice RMS boost without busting the ceiling.

Hey there M4M.
I'm pretty light on the plug-experience -still only have the UltraFunk/Sonitus and the Timeworks that came with S2, so...FWIW. The Sonitus seems to do quite well in the look-ahead clean short peak control end. I've kept it to drum tracks mostly, mainly because I have an L2 for the masters, so I can't say I've actually had them head to head though.
The Timework comp's limiter seems to punch holes in the program by comparison. Not sure what's up with that.

Voxengo Elephant (VST) just got an update it's now Elephant2 - but it was pretty good already - it's my favorite mastering limiter.

I don't have L2.

I have T-Racks, Ozone2, Ozone3, Sonitus (came with sonar3) , PSP just to give a reference point for my comment.

Dachay's right. L2 !!!

It's not CPU friendly if you put it across many tracks. I guess (unless you have Sonitus FX) Timeworks do better job on track, while L2 works great on V main.

L2 is software as well. AFAIK it is an update to the L1. It is included with the Waves Masters Bundle.

BTW, I agree with James. The L2 is better used as a mastering limiter on the entire mix. I've never really used it as a track limiter. (In fact, I never used anything as a track limiter. Normally I just use compression on individual tracks.)

Timeworks Mastering Compressor if you want a lil more loudness but still keep the sonic integrity of the oiriginal mix

L2 if you wanna just smash all the transients and dynamics and want to make peoples ears bleed

the voxengo elephant is pretty good too, more like the mastering compressor then the L2

well the mastering compressor is actually a limiter ONLY while the compressor X is both, I would suspect they have different algorithms cuz one was designed with the 2bus just in mind while the other the(compressorX) is supposed to be for tracking, mixing, and mastering, not to mention one is a compressor and the other is a limiter
