If a desk stand really is the way you want to go this may help

desk microphone stand | eBay

However you still have all the space behind your work area in which to place a mic stand.
have you any treatment in your room?
working in a corner might not be the best place. Do some experimenting before you buy. By recording samples at differant places in the room and see what sounds best.
You may find that during recording the mic sounds better by placing it behind your seating position and speaking into it facing the far off corner.
so set up your daw. Mic stand. sheet music stand with notes. press the red button . turn around and use a close mic technique for proximity effect and broadcast away.
Happy hunting my friend.

For the desk boom stand you got there, is that the most stable kind? I've heard mixed reviews about that one. Some say perfect, others say it falls down with them.

Alas, treatment is what I was going to figure out after I had my arrangements all set. I do like your idea however. I'm thinking perhaps for serious recording, I could do what you suggested, then just fold up the stand when I'm done. (having the stand permanently set up like that would get in my way) When I'm talking on the computer, I could use the desk mount. Does that sound good?

And yeah, moresound. That arm stand is around £80+. A bit pricey.

Edit: Oh, the stand I was referring to was this one: http://www.stagebeat.co.uk/ON-STAGE...icrophone-Stand-MS7920B-131387?source=froogle

Dang! Well we just got to get you situated with a proper microphone stand to meet your needs.

You have to figure out what best suits your need with available space, budget etc
If you want cheap they can be had here. (See link below)(check the postage and handling charge too).

They have all types and budgets even the anglepoise stands muc cheaper than those on the ebay page
I bought 2 x 1 foot tall tripod stands for recording guitar cabs at xmas and they cost me 23 squid all in.

ssshhhh dont tell anyone else (not affilliated btw)

Oh man, that page is great. Having a look at the desktop boom stands, my only reservation again would be the base. I'm not sure how stable they'd be with the condenser mic + shock mount + pop filter on the end of them?

Looking at the anglepoise stands seems temping, although with delivery and such it'd still be a hefty amount (I'm in the north east of Scotland - bah!)

Think it's worth buying a couple and then returning the ones that don't match up? Is it worth the hassle?

Buying more on 1 order inccurs only one handling charge which brings the price down if i remember right.
i usually bulk buy from them on cables and connectors and other studio bits.

How much does your mic wiegh?

why not call them and ask if its suitable for you application ?
At least then if you need to return it you will be able to give them reasons why it's not for you.
Or just save up a while and ask around (other studios in your area) until you find the right stand.

The AT2035 weighs apparently 403g - about 0.88lb for you Americans out there. I'm gonna guess that's actually pretty light?

Sounds like a good idea, I may do that. I've done business with that site before.

Good thing you did that or I would have been lost from here on out :D

There was talk of changing over to the metric system here but it never really took off.
You only see it added to the weight in ounces on bottles and cans.

Beyer Dynamic ST238. It's available to screw into the desk like THIS ONE or in a version with a clamp instead.

That said, it can often be better just to use a floor stand with a boom--this completely decouples the mic from the desk, useful when you bump the desk or drop your coffee mug at the wrong time.

True this
Rustling paper when you change page, clicking the mouse. All the kind of things that over time you will notice and want to eliminate (edit out). Early reflections might also pose there own problems too.
Positioning within the room will almost certainly affect the sound and performance.

I think I know what I'm going to do at this point.

Grab the On stage desk mic for permanent mic housing and when skype calling, that kind of stuff. And for serious recording, go with kip's suggestion of a full size boom stand, positioned correctly within the room, that I can fold away when not needed. (Picking the on stage hands euro for that one)

Sound good?

Try a Mic Arm---It takes up VERY little space

HI!
I do voiceover work and love my mic arm set up. It's bolted into the desk that I use (I record and edit right there) and I can just swing the mic over and out of the way when I'm finished recording and need to edit. I searched the internet to find one, but lucked out when the non-profit I read for was upgrading equipment and gave me one of their old ones. Anyway, it's a great set up & doesn't take up any extra space.

I'd get one if I could - but I spent a ton on the equipment and I'd rather not spend another boatload on a mic arm. I may upgrade in the future, but for now, I think the desk boom stand + a full sized one will serve me well enough.

Omg i just realised i got promoted from dedicated member to FORCE OF NATURE yay hope i dont get any red angels

By now you can change that wording to anything you choose.
