Best Home Recording Software?

I hear that Nuendo uses a newer, or diffrent type of engine than SX, it's suppose to be better. (now technically I don't know what the hell it means, I'm just repeating what I hear)

I been using cubase since 1996 so am biased towards that. have pretty much tried all the trial versions of all the above. Would have to say that I'm not a huge fan of SX though, as I don't hear much difference in the overall audio quality (really just too cheap to shell out for an upgrade :). so still prefer to use the older VST32 version 5.

Also someone above mentioned acid pro 4 and I have to agree to a point that this program can be used as a multitracker if your only ever going to be adding one mono or stereo track at a time *(at least at this stage as far as I know-could be that it will become a true multitracker in future). Acid is really great for laying down ideas to basic loop beats. then if your take is good enough you can easily import later into whatever other package you like. Its also about the best for cutting up/rearranging beats. I sometimes really like the sound of the audio you get in Acid for guitar and stuff as in older versions it sort of had this like built in compression thing happening that was cool. maybe my imagination but I liked to record in there and import to cubase. Not so much with version 4 which sounds much the same as others-just the older versions are cool for this.

Someone else mentioned N-track studio. have this as well and if I was starting out this would a perfect way to get into DAW recording-can't beat the price for what it allows you to do.

A couple of buddies are really into logic and I have messed around with that too for years, but just find for me that I have to think too much and not intuitive. But has some mighty fine VSTIs /plugs that only work in logic (bummer)

I geuss it comes down to what you get used to. they all do the same thing really-so whatever you buy stick with it and get really good at that. get to know it inside and out and all its limitations etc and then you have something to compare these other packages with in future. Asking what the best package is never going to get you definitive answer as everyone will swear by the package that they own and use. Bottom line is that they pretty much all do similar stuff these days so download the trial versions and find out which is the most suited for your uses.
