i already own a presonus blue tube, should i maybe just use that for the bass DI or should i buy the behringer one since everyone seems to like that one?

for DIY, a passive DI box is practically the easiest and most useful thing you can build. buy a jensen transformer that has one winding at about 50k ohms and the other winding at about 600 ohms. on the 50k side, connect one terminal to the tip/hot of the unbalanced source(1/4 jack). the other terminal is connected of the ground of the DI housing and to the ground of the source. connect one terminal of the 600 side to the hot on the balanced output(XLR jack), connect the other terminal to the cold of the balanced output. connect the ground of the XLR jack to the ground of the housing. if you want to get fancy, put a switch that will interrupt the path from the XLR to the ground. there you have it, it is that easy.

the BSS AR133 direct box which the Behringer D100 is VERY similar to in looks and features is a great DI.

Now that I think about it the BSS AR 416 Quad DI is also very similar to the Behringer Pro DI 4000 Quad DI.

You can put those behringer DI in between the amp and the speaker. How does that sound? The bassplayer in one of the bands I mix is quite dependant of his amp for his sound, and I remember one of the engineers doing this (DI in between amp and speaker) since he didn't have a good mic... But the location was a pretty bad reference so I really don't know.

roel, i tried it once while recording an old traynor tube bass head.... didnt work so good, there was a buzz that couldnt be solved with the ground switch, so i ended up just micing the cabinet.....that was like 2 years ago and i havent tried it since

I use a bluetube as a bass DI and love it...varying the levels of gain and drive allows to get anywhere from a clean 'no frills' sound (more gain, less drive) to a nice warm, fat tone (some gain, some drive) to a nasty growling mess (less gain, more drive).....
at least try it!!!!!!!!!
