So here's the deal.

So far, my band and I have managed to play without any monitors. This is somewhat easy, considering our instruments are generally acoustic and our stages are small (not to say cramped).

But coming up we may be playing a significantly larger stage (or two) where we'll have to bring in our own sound system etc. I'm seriously considering putting pickups on our instruments too (I cringe as a classically-trained musician) rather than play into stationary mics. But the main issue is going to be the monitoring. I like the idea of having IEMs, but I would really prefer to have a stereo mix pumped into my ears rather than a low-priced mono mix.

At this point I'm seriously considering renting a system.

Sounds like I'm too picky! But any thoughts/advice is appreciated.

If this is of any help, we're a four-piece band, and we can all use the same mix.

Just making sure -- even never having used them before? Are the issues people have with them mostly the transition from floor wedges?
I wouldn't know - Our band switched over one day and never looked back - I suppose there might be a bit of spatial orientation going on
but they were so clear to begin with it didn't bother use at all - our overall stage volume was zip at that point - Drummers Electronic, Me
and the Bassist are using Helix - and the Keyboardist is direct - couldn't be more happy.
