Best bang for the buck? That´s easy:

Wire coat hanger and pantyhose AKA DIY pop shield. The price/sound improvement ratio is unbeatable.

Actually you could very well get those for less than a buck so maybe they don´t apply here...

Now, Scooter---being a small company making limited editions of prized custom processors, we are unable to give any away (unless you could review the unit and boost sales tremendously). Let me talk to Chessrock and see what kind of sneaky under the table deal we might be able to arrange. Do you work for a gear magazine by any chance?

I didn't Rane was that small of a company but sure.....as far as you know I own the magazine so yeah send me the that unit and youe sales will go through the roof!

:D

It is scary how close that write up is to actual advertisments these days.

Well, I'll ask if she has any objection...

Meanwhile, congrats on yet another outstanding icon, Speed. Who is it this time? (Thanks for the last PM, by the way!)

Damn! I just read the spec sheet on the infector. This is actually a tremendous product. I'm not sure that, even with Chessrock's help, we can design a unit to surpass this one. Hell, I don't even know where to get the reflective paint or the spinal tap taper pots.

I actually have a factory printed copy of this flyer at home(one of my friends who worked at GC got it from the Rane rep.

The SM-57 is really hard to argue with. I love em, but, as the owner of a small recording studio trying to make a living, my bills are paid by the Drawmer DC2476 Mastering processor. It solved all my "I want my CD to sound as loud as this big money commercial release... but we only have a couple hundred bucks." problems and much more. If I had to send it to be fixed, my studio would be closed until it returned.

OTARI 5050 - 8 on ebay $500

Otari 5050 2 track on ebay $100-500

Creative Inspire 2.1 2400 active speaker-system. Around $40-50.
Not exactly monitor quality, but beats the pants of most cheap compact-stereos I've heard.

Creative is a funny company. They don't sell these in the US. There are some called Inspire 2.1 2500 instead, which seems very similar. In Asia there are the "Soundworks 320" which are exactly the sam, except for some small changes in design to the small statelite speakers. They sure sound very similar (I have these too) and cost the same. And in Europe, there are also a product called Inspire 2.1 Console 2400 which are exactly the same as the Inspire 2.1 2400, except that they are 10 Euro more. :)

I think Creatives strategy is to confuse the customer. :)

Dare I make a prediction?

Best future bang for the buck, the new Pod XT.

GT

OK,

Through the miracle of time travel, I've jetted forward, and I'm now quoating myself.

I think I was wrong, not much talk around here about how great it is, like with the original Pod.

Does anybody think the Pod xt deserves best bang for the buck, or is it like Rocky V?

Give them a call.I'm sure they would ship stuff.

I gotta agree with that $35 soldering station. Mine was over a c-note.

On the cheap side my BBFTB item would have to be the ultra-conienience
of my little Bass Pod. I think I paid under 300CDN for it, don't remember,
but it's made life easier.

Oh, and I also nominate patch-bays. Almost any kind (although the Behringer ones are probably extra good value).

And Ikea "Billy" bookshelves. :)

Although I appreciate what the pseudoaccoustic Infector does, I much prefer the Focusrite Red 0.

i vote for the mxl 603 and the behringer ecm8000.
yes, i'm cheap.
