Hello everybody,

I have a lot of distortion pedals (boss mt-2 metal zone, metal muff, AMT du hast, etc.). I am looking a a guitar combo amplifier that would be good to use these pedals with. I don't care about the built-in sounds of the amp because I want to use my pedals to generate the tone.

I have a line 6 spider II, but there is no way to bypass the Amp + cabinet modeling that it uses. Even on the "Red clean" channel the pedals don't sound that good.

I have a zoom Fire 36 with has an "aux" in jack that bypasses its internal amps and cabinet modeling. It is pretty good, but I would like to know about better options.

Maybe a Tech21 PW60 Power Engine?

Maybe an Atomic Reactor 112?

Any other ideas?

Thanks

If you want clean headroom where your pedals do all the work, a Twin can get nice and loud w/out breakup.... also a Roland JC will do great, but if you play really heavy music, your marshall/boogie playin pals will assume you are gay! :)

Really? I played in a Death Metal band, using a JC120.. those amps kick ASS..

I would personally reccommend a good quailty solid state amp, somthing along the lines of crate, or peavey. Goto the store and plugin to a bunch of amps, take a couple of pedals with you.. You will find somthing you like ;)

Personally, I never have like crate, but maybe I should listen to them again...

...hmm.....I've been too long in the tube world.......

Do Crate and Peavy really make what are considered "Quality" solid state amps nowadays?

I was just kidding... as the JC is kind of known as a jazzer.

They are good enough to give a clean sound, suitable for pedal/processor use.

What do you want to use it for? Studio use? Live? Theres a ton of varibles that your leaving out.

Crate makes a decent amp, although on the lower end of things. As for peavey, i have always liked there stuff.

Alot of my reccommendations comes from what i have to work on alot. Which is why i wont reccommend mesa to anyone. I repair more of them than any other amps. Just somthing to think about

i use a jc120 for live stuff, and i like it a lot, i just find it's a tad thin sounding, but then again i'm spoiled by using my '65 blackface fender bandmaster in the studio which definitely takes to my tubescreamers a lot nicer.

I should have mentioned that this amp is only for playing not for recording. I think I will go with the a Tech21 PW60 Power Engine after all. Harmony central gave it great reviews and it is designed for my purpose anyhow...
