I plan to purchase active monitors soon and have a budget of no more than $400. Music is mostly vocal/acoustic but also some drums and elec guitar/bass. What do you recommend and why? Thanks!

This is a heavily covered topic. Please try the search function.

I did run a few searches before posting but didn't have much luck finding anything that really answers my question. One of the previous threads for example was asking for active monitors under $300 and most of the replies were for $500+ monitors. I think a new thread is helpful too because if there's any new gear it will be able to be included.

You could nab some M-audio BX5's.
They would be right up your alley for the sound youll be predominetly mixing.

i did´nt add them to the list cause i did hear and don´t like them.
The old esi near 05 are the same an i would never buy one of them.

i would go with wharfedale 8.1 or 8.2

Suit yourself.

the BX8's where on sale at GC for $400.00, not sure if they still are. Picked some up. Pretty Happy.

I went with the M-Audio BX5's for $299. I tried them against KRK RP5's and the BX5's were a clear winner. Much more detail.

The BX5's are good - adding the SBX subwoofer make's for a excellent sounding system for the money.

hey in the reveiw they are recommending behringer monitors.

those are no monitors :D believe me they aren´t worth to listen.
