Beringer's eurorack and eurodesk mixers

Any pros/cons of these things?

I just picked up a 1204fx and discovered you really do need mic preamps for mics :D but it only has 4 and I want 8-9 (gtr, gtr, bass, 3x drum, 2-3x vocal). One thing that irked me about the 1204 was the effects send/engine/return had a noticeable hiss in it.

Other than Behringer, what good 4/6 bus mixers are out there with 8+ mic preamps with lower price tags?

A Behringer mixer !!??

together as an oxyMORON!!!:p :p :D

One wonders how they managed to get it this noisy as their stand alone units and the FX in the Digi console are much quieter.

They do not however cause any problems in a Live environment, where other factors usually swamp the noise.

Yamaha MG is your route! They have better pres and you get more of them for the money because they stick a couple in the stereo channels for more versatility.

The 12/4 has six pres (as opposed to the four in the equivalent-numbered Behringer). The 16/4 has ten pres and goes in the UK for £176 - bargain!
 
Well, apart from the noisy, harsh brittle sounding preamps..... You'll be putting a cross on the scribble strip for a couple of channels in no time ;)

Really bad build quality.

I'm not crazy about Yamaha pres either, but I'd use them in a heart-beat over Behringer :D

You guys bashing Behringer crack me up. Most that do have never used one, or at least not the UB series, and I haven't meet anyone yet that has tried every model. I Love my UB1382. A much, much better deal at $270, and a bigger bang for the buck than the lower end Mackies (which I also have) or Yamaha stuff that runs $1000 or more. Thing is quite as a mouse. FX suck for the most part, but it's a mixer, not a processor. BTW...Behringer is making Mackie mixers now. When you buy a Mackie it will have been built by Behringer. Best advice I could give is don't pay much attention to the name on equipment you buy, it's really not important (unless it says "Mesa Boogie" on it, then it is the only thing that matters). Use your ears when you shop, and spend a lot of time with things before you buy them. Don't be afraid of pissing of the salesman becuase you've spent 4 hours checking out one board. And if he won't hook up different things for you, or you can't hear it and spend time with it before you buy it.....go somewhere else, or at least check the return policies of the store very carefully before buying.
 
I started my recording career with a Yamaha MD8 and a Behringer MX3282A. With little knowledge and nothing to compare it to, I thought it was the best thing ever.
Then one channel failed, no biggy, I didn't need 32 anyway. Then one of the groups failed, so I sent it in for repair (still under warranty). Got it back about 2 weeks later and then after another month, both original faults reappearde and two more channels went down. I cracked the sh|ts and told them I wanted a new mixer. To their credit they agreed. But when channels started going down in that one I got rid of it and the MD8 and bought a DIGI001.

I now have a small UB series mixer that I use to send the 001 signal and a talkback mic to the headphone amp. And now one of the stereo channels in that has developed an intermitent fault. :rolleyes:

The preamps, well, like I said, when you have nothing to compare them to they sound great. I A/B'd them with a Mackie VLZ mixer and could hear very little, if any difference. But as soon as you are spoiled with high-end gear, even mid-level gear, you will never use them again. NEVER.

I have other Behringer gear that I like just fine. A DI, a headphone amp, a compressor, a cable tester.......... I'm not bashing Behringer..... just their mixers.
 
I'm not 'bashing' Behringer. Yawn. Look for my thread GOOD Behringer Gear, which I started to discuss their good pieces. I'm not even 'bashing' their mixers carte blanche, my UB1204 is currently my *only* unpowered mixer. When I tried it out in the shop, the pres made less hiss than an expensive Soundcraft. The difference was probably due to how much more gain the Soundcraft actually produces, but I wasn't to know that.

My auxiliary Tape In broke recently, one of my stereo channels has gone and one of the pres is crackly. I've had the thing 18 months and it has been sat in the box unused for *16 months* of that time, and only gently used at any other point. Now I'm all for disposable gear if it comes in cheaper than real gear, but the Yamaha MG mixers (which came out here about a month after I go my Behri) are the same price and give the impression that yamaha have not cut anywhere near as many production quality corners as Behringer have.
 
I have had my Behringer Mixer for 2 years, no problems. Ever. ANY item from ANY company can have problems, and like I stated Mackie is now being made by Behringer.
I have recorded in many different multi-million dollar studios, so I do know top end. Hence, I have compared it. I am not claiming the UB is top end (although some of the higher end Behringer mixers are very respected in the industry), I'm saying for the price range it beats any of the lower end Mackies that cost 3 times as much. I have heard many QC stories about Behringer, but I have also heard the same stories about Mackie and Yamaha.
At this point I must state that I am shopping for a new bigger board in the $4000-$5000 range and it will probably NOT be a Behringer.

Can you direct me to some proof that Behringer are manufacturing for Mackie? I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm just not ready to believe that without proof.

That being said, I do agree with your second comment quoted above..... but that just tells you I'm not that impressed with Mackie either ;)

I am saying this because it was suggested that the people that like the Behrigher stuff have never worked with anything better so they have nothing to compare it to, and once they do they learn that the beh's stuff is lower grade. Because in the board I am looking at in that price range is not a Behringer. That simple. Never said it was the only board I would ever use. Don't know what answer you are looking for. My post was defending the lower end Behringer against the lower end Mackie, and Yamaha. When I say "higher end" being respected I am talking about a much different price range, and a whole different ballpark (well above the $5000 range which is chump change), and not anything that would be found in a "home studio".
Also, I stated that the higher end Behringer boards are very respected in the industry....you chopped up my post and took your "quotes" out of context. I never said anything about the lower end boards being respected in the industry, only that they are a better value (at $300) then the lower end, more expensive Mackies ( at $1500 and below).....so, no I do not wish to retract my statement. Maybe it's just your complete lack of respect, but I get the impression you just want to argue. What is your arguement? That I am wrong? You have not stated what you believe the truth to be. I suggest you re-read my post SLOWLY, and refrain from chopping up my words to better suit your arguement. Aslo, try to have a point next time.

A salesman at SamAsh onces told me "I wouln't recommend anything by Behringer" I asked "Have you tried EVERY product they make?" He replied "No, never used Behringer, and never will". I asked "then, how do you know it's no good?" He said "becuase they illegaly copied Mackie, and it's made overseas" Duh! Do some research, guys, so is Mackie now, with none of the savings being passed on to the consumer.

I wouldn't put much faith in a salesman who made that type of statement. That's when you politely say "Is there someone else here that I can talk to."
