Bellari RP520 Mic Pre

Yes, I have the hots to buy a new mic pre and am looking at the Presonus MP-20. I just came across the Bellari RP520, a dual tube that must sell for $550 or so. I found a "B" stock unit for $360, seems like a good deal. Does anybody know anything about these? How do they compare? I currently have an ART Dual MP and a Mackie VLZ Pro 1642. Will I be gaining much with any of these or do I just have a hole in my pocket (like everybody else on this forum!!)????

Bellari stuff is repackaged Rolls with a fancier logo.

ROLLS makes some of the most godawful crap I've ever seen - sloppy circuitry, components slapped together with duct tape and clue (just about... seriously!)

I'd stay away from it if I were you....

Save your cash for a while longer. Do not buy the Bellari. -- check

Your better waiting until you have $1000-$1500 to INVEST in a preamp. Buy something you'll have forever, not something that you'll sell on ebay in 2 months for half of what you paid for it.

The key word here is invest. I used to crap after crap after crap. I used to sell crap after crap after crap. It finally dawned on me the other day. Instead letting the extra $ burn a hole in my pocket, save it and wait a little longer. Then buy something you will have forever. Thats been my plan and its working, I ready to INVEST $2000 in a new mic pre. Something that my kids will be able to use. Do not waste your money on the cheaper 'fad' type produts.

OK, I am convinced. I am not going to buy the Bellari, but do I really have to spend $1000 or more to get something that is not crap? This would certainly rule out the Presonus MP-20, because it is about $500. Am I going to have to spend $1,000 to get something that I will really be able to tell a difference between that and my ART Dual MP and my Mackies? I do want professional quality, but I am about to choke on $1000 for a preamp.

Sorry to say, but when you are looking for Class A equipment, be prepared to spend the big bucks. The really bad thing about the good gear is that people hold onto it because it is good.

What Gargamel points out is true, you see all the bad equipment on ebay listed as "Only used for three hours."
