Behringerx1222, Can I record the 2TR USB??

So I got this mixer for a good deal on Amazon I liked the 7 band EQ and the built in compressors and the effects are decent enough, but I try recording using the USB interface with audicity, a live mic and an instrumental that I was streaming from my computer, Well it sounds great in my headphones but the recording only gets the Mic and not the USB2tr, Nothing I even tried running a line from my phone to the rca inputs of the mixer and still nothing but the mic, I dont get it I thought this mixer while limited for recording I understand, At least would record what ever was in the main mix??/? Am I missing something please If anyone can help me I would really appriciate it

Thanks, ya I know how to use the mixer for live sound, Im very comfortable with that side of things The issue im having is with recording an audio output from my computer through the usb interface of the mixer, adding say vocals or keys and then recording that mix back on the computer, In my headphones from the mixer everything is there and sounds great, when I hit record, all that is coming from the mixer is the said "vocals or keys" and missing the audio from my computer, its kinda got me puzzled, especially because I had a behringer usb mixer 10 years ago that did this effortlessly, Im just having a hard time believing that this mixer with all its little extras, wont do it, but im almost now convinced it wont, I was hoping someone on here might have had this same mixer and would just confirm the bad news to me, so I can move on, and return this mixer back to amazon....

what is your monitor set to on your headphone output on the 1222 ?

hmmm so youre playing back from your daw ... you may need to use a physical jack out from the daw ( if yo have a separate interface ) and pipe it into a stereo input on the x1222. It may send the 2 track USB return to the xlr or phono outs of the mixer for foh but not back into the usb.. come to think of it doing that may cause it to feedback or loop ..

If you get stuck burn the backing track to CD then play it from a cd player into the mixer ...

Recording:
For mastering, using a stereo compressor such as the COMPOSER PRO-XL MDX2600
can be recommended. Use it to custom-tailor the dynamic characteristics of your
signal to the dynamic range of the recording equipment you are using. The signal
is in this case passed on from the compressor into the recorder.
PHONES
The PHONES control adjusts the volume of the headphones connected to the
PHONS/CTRL connector. If you connect active monitors or an amplifier, use this
connector to adjust the output signal level.
!! CAUTION!
◊ We would like to draw your attention to the fact that extreme volumes
may damage your hearing and/or your headphones or loudspeakers.
Turn the MAIN MIX faders and the PHONES control in the main section
fully down before you switch on the unit. Always be careful to set the
appropriate volume.

PHONS/CTRL connector
You can connect headphones to this ¼" TRS connector. The connector can also
be used for feeding active monitor loudspeakers (or an amplifier) in your control
room. For this purpose, the signal is taken directly before it is passed on to the
main mix faders.

POWER
The blue POWER LED indicates that the device is switched on.
+48 V
The red “+48 V” LED lights up when the phantom power supply is switched
on. The phantom power supply is necessary for condenser microphones and
is activated using the corresponding switch on the rear of the device.
◊ Connect microphones before you switch on the phantom power
supply. Please do not connect microphones to the mixer (or the
stagebox/wallbox) while the phantom power supply is switched on.
In addition, the monitor/PA loudspeakers should be muted before you
activate the phantom power supply. After switching on, wait approx.
one minute to allow for system stabilization.
LEVEL METER/CLIP
The high-precision level meter accurately displays the appropriate signal level.
LEVEL SETTING:
When recording to a digital device, the recorder’s peak meter should not exceed
0 dB. This is because, unlike analog recordings, slightly excessive levels can create
unpleasant digital distortion.
When recording to an analog device, the VU meters of the recording machine
should reach approx. +3 dB with low-frequency signals (e.g. kick drum). Due to
their inertia VU meters tend to display too low a signal level at frequencies above
1 kHz. This is why, for example, a Hi-Hat should only be driven as far as -10 dB.
Snare drums should be driven to approx. 0 dB.
◊ The peak meters of your XENYX display the level virtually independent
of frequency. A recording level of 0 dB is recommended for all
signal types.
2.3.7 USB input/output
Fig. 2.15: USB input/output
The XENYX mixer line has built-in USB connectivity, allowing stereo signals to
be sent to and from the mixer and a computer. The audio sent from the mixer to
a computer is identical to the MAIN MIX. Audio being sent to the mixer from a
computer can be routed to the main mix with the 2-TR/USB TO MA

Sorry, that didn't 'grab' properly. Last line ...."can be routed to the main mix with the 2-TR/USB to MAIN MIX button" But! I am blowed if I can find that button!

Looking at the manual, it's clear that the USB from the mixer, to the computer is identical to the main mix - so whatever you are doing shoudl be reflected in that output. if you mix three sources, and they are what you are hearing when you waggle the master fader up and down - this should be recorded? There doesn't seem any other routing option to send different sources that I can see - as it doesn't have solo facilities - I can't see how it would only have just one channel present, unless all the other faders were down?

Easy solution: put the backing track you are using on a track in your DAW... no need to re-record it, it's already there.

theres 2 buttons i think that if not configured correctly may cause a problem , the " monitor/main mix " button under the 7 band .. and or the red button " STANDBY " on the " USB Return " slider ... now i suspect either the unit cant facilitate this or theres a particular set of parameters that allow it to .. ( no sheet Sherlock )

what confuses me is the USB Return slider is a return .. not a send , mind ytou it can revieve information and send it to main mix but unless that red button is configur4ed correctly it may not be visdible as a return to the daw .. ... it may be pre fade to the headphone out but not to the main mix..

is that more confusing ? i hope so cos i am ..

YA that seems to be the whole problem with this mixer it has no 2-TR/USB to main mix, I noticed that right away but assumed that it just didnt have the option to mute the 2 tr/usb to the main mix but Im fairly confident its the opposite, it does not ever send the 2 tr/usb back to the computer at the same time as it is being received. Ive ordered the behringer x1622 which does have the 2tr/usb to main mix button I will keep the x1222 until I try it out if it does the same then I know it is a setting on my computer or with the behringer audio driver,
