ok, after much research and web-surfing, i have come down to two mixing desks i think which are suitable for me. either...

Behringer EURORACK MX3242X...

...or...

Soundcraft Spirit SX.

but which one? feedback from users of these desks would be great. if you havnt used either of these specific models, even jus an outlook on behringer or soundcraft themselfs ie how do you rate there pres, are they nice boards to work with etc etc.. feedback would be greatly appreciated!!

Steve

I have the SX. Used to have an MX Berry mixer. The improvement when I upgraded was huge. The EQ is awesome compared to the behringer, and so are the pres. I daresay there's far less cross-talk as well.
My advice is that you go with the SX, anything else would be...strange ;)

Do a search for the words "Behringer" and "crap" and see how many results you get.

;)

There's Behringer stuff that's useable, but in this case there's no contest. Given the choice of just those two, I'd go with the Soundcraft.

haha, well i daresay the results are clear and consistent...
the one problem with the Sx is that only 8 direct outs... ideally for my situation id preferably have direct outs on all channels... to send into multitrack software in my computer...any sugestions on decent quality 16 input desks with all 16 ins having direct outs on the channels?! ive been trying to find one for ages... i thought i struck gold upon finding the behringer, suits my needs perfectly... obviously not though... any suggestions people?! thanks guys

Steve

P.S after veiwing the soundcraft site, noticed the fx16. 16 inputs, with direct outs on each channel - what i need. again, this isnt overly expensive in comparison with my budget. is it safe to say that the fx, aslong with the sx, is a better desk than the berry? any additional info still welcomed on different desks! thanks.

You can use the channel inserts on the other channels if they have them. Just plug the cable in to the first click. Works just like a tape out.

I've been using an MX 3282A for some years now. Its always worked for me. Never a problem. Sound compared to the SX,...?? Cant help you there. But,..I also own several other Behringer devices. They seem to be made well,..meaning that none of them have broken yet,..like some other gear I've owned.
From the looks of this thread though,..you'll probably go with the SX. Good luck to ya!

Take 'er easy,...

Well, now you know what to say if someone asks if they should buy a BMW or a Kia. ;)

Although to be fair, it's a Spirit, so it's more like a Honda vs. a Kia. Honda still wins, but not a run-away victory like a real Soundcraft would be.

Soundcraft M series has some great pres. They are the same design as the Ghost pres. They also have direct outs on every channel.

Yes Soundcraft Spirit is like a BMW vs Kia. when compaired to Behringer. Now if it was Yamaha vs Soundcraft then you would have BMX vs Honda.

The high end Soudcraft stuff is a Bently

but what about the fx16? how does it compare to the berry, and the spirit sx? or are they too similar in the way there built to be able to compare the two? thanks!

The FX16 and SX have the the same pres. Both of those boards are better than the Behringer and Mackie. The next step up would be the Soundcraft M series

Before you bail on the Behringer, take note that most of the bashing is based on the MX series. The Euro UB series, and the Eurodesk lines are a large improvement. I have used the UB2442 for awhile, and the UB1832fx Pro before that, and am very happy with them. My partner in crime uses the Mackie 1604, and I would take the Berry over it any day. To me, the Mackie is WAY over-rated, and WAY over priced. Remember that this is a place to get OPINIONS. The best way to find out is to check it out with your own ears.

Behringer boards are OK for what they are, but not when compared to Soundcraft.

toker41 - i understand where your coming from, the problem is i dont have money to burn really, so i want to make sure my choice is right. maybe its worth posting in more forums, see what other people think, although from this thread, it seems soundcraft is the better board. il investigate still into the berrys. thanks again,

Steve

To be honest, the soundcraft is the better choice, and next time I buy a new board I have already decided to go in that direction. I wasn't suggesting that you buy each and check them out. Try to find a sales rep in a store (Samash, etc.) that will take the time to let you mess with things before you take them out of the store. I try to get chummy with sales people, and stick with the ones that are willing to let me spend some time with things in a little room by myself in the store before I buy ANYTHING. Unfortunately, not all places are willing to do that. So then I just check the return policy and have no problem checking items out in my studio. If I don't like them....I take them back.
Good luck.

yeah...i can't beieve this question, hahaha.

soundcraft OWNS behringer in any and all comparison, except maybe cost...ha.
