Behringer Truth monitors

I feel a little silly asking opinions on these because I know a lot of people out there don't like Behringer products.

But has anyone experienced these? If so, how did you like them?

Right now I'm mixing on various sets of headphones and would like something a little better than what I've got now while still not spending a lot of money.

a buddy of mine has them, and makes records on them 7 days a week

personally i think they're muddy crap, but they work for him, and the bands seem to like them because they have 8" drivers and get pretty loud
 
Well, I'm sure the monitors are fine.
I would recommend something along the lines of Mackie MR8 2-Way Active Studio Monitors.

The price difference isn't very much, but the sound difference is!
I have actually owned a few Behringer mixers, DI boxes, effect processors, and things of that nature. To be honest, I've never really had problems with any of it. I have heard all of the nasty things people have said about their products and have sometimes even been a little upset, because the company is providing very good quality products for the price they ask.
Just spend the extra 150 and get some Mackies!! :D
 
I have a pair of Truths and I like them. I use them, headphones, and a pair of Polk Monitor 10's. I try the mix on all 3 and when it sounds ok on all, then Im done. My final decision lies with the Polks (Vintage Stereo Speakers). But for the money the Behringer Truths sound pretty good.
 
I have a pair of them and like them.

When choosing your monitors take your favorite cd and go to GC or another music store ask them to play it on a number of different neafield monitors. Get the pair that sounds best to you.
 
I know someone thats made some excellent CD's with them. His music is Midi sampled keys, his skills to arrange and know how to record and mix is above average, way above average....
he bought the Behringer's and likes them.

the 8" speaker is something to listen to really well, compare to other sizes and see what you like.

I was just looking at what some pro high end monitors have and the ones I was looking at have 5" driver and 10" subwoofer and 1" tweeter...all built in one cabinet. $7,000 pair.

In a poor man HR room, would this simulate as 5" monitors with a $100 sub on each side?

I have a set of the 8" passive and I love 'em. Partly because I drive 'em with a very high quality amp (micro-fet) and supplement them with a sub that extends down to about 25 Hz or so. I tried a bunch of mon's and the B's beat the shit out of all but the Mackie's, but just barely. I still haven't had a smash hit record but I know for sure that it ain't because I didn't spend more money on my monitors.

I'm considering the passive Truth monitors. I have an PresSonus HP4 preamp. Would this be "good" enough? Or should I go with the active monitors?

check out musiciansfriend.com for some reviews of both types. guess each has its pros and cons.
 
I guess I'm confused to as if the PreSonus HP4 is a monitor preamp or not. I don't know if it requires passive or active monitors. :confused:
 
I bought a pair as a "second" set of reference monitors.

And I wound up using them more often as my primary pair, as I find that things translate well with them, and they aren't particularly fatiguing on the ears.

It's a totally subjective call, though. Very rarely do any two people hear any one set of monitors the same. One advantage to monitors in general ... is that they're very easy to compare and to audition before purchasing, so there's really no excuse.
 
I have the 2031 A's and I like them a lot....mixes translate very well for me on them, and that's the biggie......price ain't bad, either.
 
Well, for the HP4 amp I have, should I get passive or active? :confused: Or will either work?

As far as I can tell, the HP4 is a headphone amp and not ment to power speakers.

The active speakers only need a line lvl signal to work and the passive speakers need an amplifier, like your stereo amp. IMHO the actives are balanced and a better deal for you but still you need to go out and listen to a variety of nearfields to see what sounds best for you.
 
Well, on the back of the HP4, there is a "monitor out". I was reading through the manual for it and it said you can use passive monitors, but it has to go through a pre-amp first. Or, you can run it directly into some active monitors. So I guess I'm going to be looking for active monitors. Not necessarily these Behringer ones, but maybe the KRKs, M-Audio, Swans (?). We'll see what I come up with.

Active monitors don't need a pre-amp so I am not sure why you'd want to attach em to a Presonus. Best solution is the most direct one.. with my TASCAM VL-X5 monitors, I use a 1/4" TRS to RCA cable adapter, directly into my M-Audio card. Works great.
 
I use an HP4. The monitor out is only a line level signal, so it would need to go to a power amp or to active speakers.

The output jack accepts (balanced/unbalanced) tip-sleeve or tip-ring-sleeve. The output will deliver up to +24dBu in signal level unbalanced. These outputs are designed to be connected to the power amp of your studio speakers, to the inputs of self amplified speakers, or to another HP4.

What does that translate into? :confused:

Nevermind, I think I was right... NL5 uses an HP4 and uses active monitors so... I guess I'll figure out what I want :) Hopefully monitors will help me improve my mixes at least a little bit.

Just consider every thing you add to the signal chain has potential to color the sound in an undesireable way...

Basically what that means is that it is set up to output analog line level with up to 20dB of peak analog headroom.

More specifically, "pro level" analog line level is reted at +4dBu. As this is where you normally want your signal to be averaging, your HP4 is designed to provide up to 20dB of extra space above line level to be able to fit transients and peaks without analog clipping (+4dBu line level + 20dB peak headroom = +24dBu maximum output level.)
