Behringer stuff is usually the dog's something. The question is - are the PA amps the dog's nuts, or a right dog's breakfast? Bear in mind the power for price.

I need to add a power amp to a live rig as follows:
- Soundcraft M12
- Peavey Eurosys3 15" cabs, Behringer 15" cabs
- Sennheiser, Shure and AKG mics

And the Behringer looks great for the price.

So what's it to be - dog's nuts or breakfast?

That's cool, will definitely look at them.

It's funny, but you of all people I expected to be recommending Behringer!!

Come on people - Behringer PA amps - good or bad??? I know some of you have used them!!

You can get a Crest CPX amp for about the same money and have something that sounds good and has resell value

Behringer PMX2000 Powered Mixer

I have the PMX2000 and love it. Most places were selling it at $349 and I got it for $299...thought it was a great deal. I was in Guitar Center today and saw it for $249! I play my electric guitars through it (no guitar amp) and feed my mics through it....Love it. I use 2, 15" PA cabs with 4x6 horn and a pair of tweeters on the one channel and a Hartke 4x10 guitar cab on the other channel.

OK if you insist, the Berrys are largely a clone of the QSC RMX series and there has been much debate as to whether they are made in the same factory.
What is not in any doubt is that the Power Transformers in the Berry's are quite a bit smaller than the one's in the QSC.

To obtain the outputs that they spec. into 2 ohms the output transistors would have to be run at Pmax which is not good!!! (the same on the QSC).

If you are only going to run them into 4 ohms then they will be perfectly suitable. I know that your Berry Bins are 4 ohms so thats OK.

I run very similar amps on my rig which are DAP Audio Mission 1500 which have exactly the same output config and spec. as the Berry's and while I have had silly problems with them (loose connections etc.) by and large they do what it says on the tin.

Trust me, give yourself a decent Xmas present and buy the Matrix

Tony

ps if you buy the Berry's get the EP2500, you will appreciate the headroom.

I was specifically looking at the EP2500, the reason I'm hot on them is the the power for the money. Even at 8 ohms (my Peaveys) we're looking at twice that of anything else around the £300 mark.

It's not my purchase to make but I have to make a recommendation to the charity I work with who are putting a rig together. They half bought my M12 and are buying three of my Senn e845s off me. My monitors were second hand anyway. So I have to make a representation to them for a power amp, and numbers might convince them. Sad I know.

What kind and level of sound is to be reproduced with this system? Normal public address is one thing. Handling a loud rock band for 4 hours is another.

Hmmm a lot of 'Christiany' acoustic rock I guess. Certainly vox, keys, acoustic and bass. Like to extend to electrics and perhaps the odd drum mic, but only have twelve mic pres to play with anyway. Powering a pair of 15" cabs most likely, perhaps a compact top and bin setup later.

PS - It doesn't need to be loud, but I need headroom because the buildings we're in are pretty poor at times so power in hand can make voices heard.

Pmx2000

If your interested....I have a 5 week old Behringer PMX2000 Im gonna sell. I thought Id be able to use the PA for mic and guitar amplification but the guitar is too clean...not thick enough....etc. I found that it works great for guitar if you plug the guitar amps line out into the PA line in but not as a single purpose amp...replacing the guitar amp.

I went out to SamAsh and picked up a tube amp for the guitar...sweet warm tone that I was looking for but need to sell the behringer...cant keep both.

The PMX is 250 watts per channel or 500 watts bridged.

Thanks anyway mate but I already have access to one of those and it's just not got enough power for my needs. Appreciate the offer though ... hope you find a buyer.
