Anyone use this piece of equipment? is it any good. I really would like to be able to gate kick, snare and both toms. looks good, but at $250, thats about $62 per gate... im talking quality as well. dont want to add something bad into the signal chain.

I used my multi gate while tracking with triggers to trigger the gates on the Heavy Brothers CD. The producer requested to be able to do this and we both worried that it may hurt the integrity of the signal path.

Happily I can report that the audio signal sounded no different with the multi gate in the chain then it did without it.

As far as how well this unit works, well, I have used Drawmers, Aphex, and Symetrix units and this Behringer worked just as well as the better ones, and better than the crappy ones.

The unit has sidechain/key inputs which makes it a very versatile gate. The audio passes through with no color and no noticable volume loss.

Two thumbs up on the Behringer Multi-Gate. A steal at $250!!!

ok that is what i wanted to hear. =) then you say to tape up a $2 piezo speaker from radio shack to the skin of the drum, using a 1/4" cable wired up to it. i think i saw a post somewhere about that recently.

Without getting into details, this may or may not work for you in a tracking environment. It depends upon the drums, the drummer, and the sound you want. Be carefull not to choke the hold and release times too much. You can't make the drums more resonant after the fact, but you can shorten the resonance after the fact.
