Behringer Eurorack 1222FX-Pro question:

I've got a Behringer Eurorack 1222FX-Pro and I couldn't be happier with it. However I have a noob question about a few of the features. I've played for years and I've tinkered with recording on my own for a bit though I wouldn't call myself anything but a Hobbyist at present.

I'm mainly a guitar/bass kinda guy, so 99.9% of the time I only require the use of two input channels at a time. To route my signal to my M-audio soundcard I use the mon and FX outs.

Question 1: the board has inserts on each channel, according to the manual these are to add effects or what have you pre-fade. How would you hook this up? I don't fully understand this at all. Also, the slot is labelled Insert I/O, can this slot be routed out to the input on a recorder or am do I have a bad case of wishful thinking? This Insert feature confuses me to no end.

For mixing down, I've got some questions regarding how I should hook this stuff up. Currently I'm just running the mainbuss outs through a few pieces and into a Pioneer component CDR, would using the loop produce better results (effect wise)?

There is a specially made "insert" cable that has TRS on the board side and 2 TS con's on the processor side. One for in, one for out back to the board. I dont see why you couldnt use this as an input, but not really sure why ud want too.

This will work. I do my recording to computer, but in live apps the way we usuaslly run effects is either with insert or using an aux send for the effect and then run the processor out into another channel to mix in the effect. Usually u want to send effects pre fade to get a cleaner signal path. Never tried this recording as I said b4, bc im all digital, but works very good live. Maybe someone can chime in and correct me if im wrong.

Just wanting to see what the full range of what the feature could do. I'm at a point where I need a patch bay I believe, so I can multi-function the outs for this and that as they won't be used at the same times anyway. Just wanting to optimize the gear I have to it's fullest extent before I start tacking more on to it. I appreciate your assistance very much.

As I understand your reply, you get a cleaner signal path if you add the effects pre-fade? Say I want to use a compressor on a channel I have a Shure SM57 plugged into. The 57 is micing a guitar amp. How would I go about plugging the compressor into the insert slot? My knowledge and use so far has been through the loop so I've been using 2 outputs and then two inputs back in, but the one input confuses me still in this aspect.




EDIT - Ok, I just looked up the insert cable, 1 1/4 on one end and 2 1/4 on the other, I assume the 1 connect to the insert slot then the 1 of the 2 to the input and the other to the output of whatever I'm using. The one 1/4 in the insert slot acts as the input AND output. Correct?
