Ok, my first proper post on here...

I've decided that it's time to get a mixer, and I've decided on a digital one because of the instant recall and MIDI fader control integration.

I'm very experienced in Yamaha digital desks, and was thinking of getting the 01V96 - but £1400+ is a little too expensive for me. So I'm thinking of the Behringer DDX3216 digital desk which has a similar spec but half the price (£750ish).

I know that many people slag-off Behringer desks, but aren't their digital ones in a different league?

I'd be mainly using it to route outboard synths into my PC, plus use the faders to remote control the faders in Cubase.

If anyone has any experience with the DDX, please let me know how you find it!

Cheers.

:)

hmmm. that talk about the weakest link determining overall quality... I think people will tell ya that the behringer is about to become your weakest link. No personal experience though...

Don't give Behringer the benefit of the doubt because you don't want to spend a lot of money. Get the Yamaha instead.

Personally I think all digitial mixers sound pretty nasty, but they can be useful if you are doing a lot of sessions and need to work fast.

Hmmmm.

Thanks for your comments. Will probably save up for a Yammy - which is what I've been telling myself all along...! I keep seeing the 01V96, which is what I REALLY want, although it is £1400 here in the UK. I have the money in the bank, but it would make a huge hole in my account.

Cloneboy:

Spotted the Dead Can Dance namecheck in your sig - great stuff. I was into Lisa Gerrard years before she did the Gladiator soundtrack. Yulunga - top track.

I know ppl with dreadful experiences with analog Behringer mixers, but I heared positive things about the digital mixer you mention.

I don't want to cause a fight here:-) but cheap doesn't always equals 'shit'. Behringer has some desent stuff (consider the price their condensors B1 and B2 are just great!) but among several recording crew there is a kind of snobism.

Don't get me wrong, I just recorded in a hi-tech studio and equipment does really matter: I recorded vocals through a neuman and a TubeTech preamp, and DAMN, that sounded great! But price is an issue in homestudio's so I would consider the Behringer mixer...

I personally don't have an issue with behringer products. I own several and they serve me well and yes price IS a factor. That mixer has recieved more than a few good reviews from prominent trade magazines which you can access from behringers web site. I'm sure that if you did a google search you could find the same reviews.

Their review is pretty favorable. I like this mixer, but my experience with it lasted all of half an hour -- certainly not enough to make a judgement about reliability or build quality.

I like the IMP's, and the D/A converters, which I believe are the same as those in the ADA8000's. They're not fancy, but they work and they sound acceptable for many applications.

Thanks guys.

I've actually had a change of mind:

I've decided to buy a seperate MIDI fader controller (Behringer BCF2000 maybe?) and a simple rack mixer to route modules into my soundcard.

A hell of a lot cheaper than paying for all that processing power and mic pres which I'm never going to use!
