Hello everyone.
I got about 100 $ and I need a good mic to record music in my room. My friends recommended me Shure SM 58 and Behringer B! for this range of price. Do you know which one is better?

PS: This Begringer Eurorack MX602A Mixer I found at musiciansfriend... Would it work as a preamp for any kind of mic?

Thanks!

B1 is a better all purpose mic [edit:I was thinking you were asking about a SP B1], SM58 is a better live mic...
Better is relative to what you think, what you hear, what you want
Lastly, the behringer mixer you speak of will do the job - although as you become more stricken with the disease of buying gear - you may outgrow it

Adeva, the Studio Projects B1 has better sound than the Behringer B1. The Behringer has a harsh high end on most vocals.

The SM58 needs a better mic pre than a Behringer mixer to shine,
although the UB series is better than the Eurorack.

Too bad you didn't take me up on the Shure 545sd offer ($25).
They turned out to be in mint condition, and sound very good.
The 545, or the SM57, are clearer on vocals than a SM58.

Those two mics are useless for what you want. Look at any of the LDC mics and you will be happier. MXLs seem to be in vogue.

Either one will probably sound just fine for your purposes.

The B1 is a LDC?

The Studio Projects B-1 is indeed a large diaphram condenser. I really like mine - it's a good compliment to the Marshall V67G, which is more bassy and "big," for lack of a better term.

Yes, I have both! And... not to make you jealous, but I got one of Chessparov's Shure dynamics as well!

Yep. I have it and I use it for all kinds of stuff. Fantastic starter vocal mic. Learn about the proper care of condensers; they're fragile and do not react well with moisture. Treat it with kindness.

If you're interested in a preamp, but don't absolutely have to have outboard EQ or mixing, skip the Behringer mixer and look at entry level preamps by M-Audio (DMP3, Audio Buddy), Presonus (Blue Tube) and ART (a handful of them). Any of these would be a real step up from the Behringer preamps (quiet, but kind of clangy and harsh to my ear) and still be in starter home reccer territory.

Unfortunately, I live in Romania and I couldn`t have done it.

This is also the reason for not buying a SP B1 but a Behringer B1, `cos there`s no way I can order one to send me across the ocean. This is the whole shit. :(

I'm sorry Adeva for assuming it was an option. (Shure 545)
Please accept my apology.

Thanks

chessparov...np
Thanks anyone for answering!
PS: From what I've seen, the two B1 mics (Behringer and Studio Projects) look like the same mic.
