Hello, I'm thinking about starting with the Audiophile 2496, Mackie 1202 vlzpro mixer and I also have a M Audio DMP3 Mic Pre lying around too.

-Would I still need to get a computer sound card? ie; Soundblaster Live!,etc. even though I have the Audiophile?

-How can I use my m audio powered monitors? should I still get computer monitors?

-I'm also thinking of Sonar 2.0 also, is this over kill?

I have guitars, amps, drum maching, etc. Everything IN home use only. I'm just trying to see what the best options and routes I have. Thankyou in advance for all your patience and help!

1. The components you listed are quality components.

2. No you do not need a PC soundcard, the audiophile can be set to output system sounds as well.

3. Your M-audio monitors can be tied from your audiophile. RCA to 1/4 plugs.

4. You need some kind of audio program if your going to record and Sonar is popular and dependable.

5. The options you've given will work very well.

Don't forget.........

You'll also need an "editor".

I would suggest Sound Forge 6.0 by Sonic Foundry.

-Editor?

-I thought the Sonar 2.0 etc, had EVERYTHING you need in it:Editing, mixdown, mastering, compression, finalizing, etc. Right?

-How can I use the Audiophiles rca's to 1/4's for my MAudio moniors if there are only 2 coming out of the card...How will I hook up the Mackie,DMP3,etc into the computer?

-If I'm going to be recording 1 track at a time into the computer, do I really need the Mackie multi mixer with the VLZ prees?

-The reason why I'm leaning toward the Mackie is due to I have the DR770,Chandler Echo Delay,DMP3,SM57,SM58. I think I can connect all these units into the Mackie, but what my prob is that if I use the Audios 2 rca's for my monitors, what will the Mackie plug into?

-Or if I use the Mackie into the Audio's 2 rca's, where should the monitors go into? If I put the monitors into the Mackie, I wouldn't be able to hear music/sound out of the computer, am I wrong?

HELPPPP!!!!! Thanks sooo much! Peter ><>

What does an editor do?

Ignorantly yours,
Bill

It lets you edit ( chop up ) your tracks note by note ( if needed ) etc.

P.S. I'd stay away from the SB Live! It doesn't play well with other cards. : )
