Hat STYLE. Not contents.
Hi folks. I just finished the first draft of another cover.

This time it's Project Leviathan's "Begin Transmission", which I'm pretty sure is about giant robots called "angels". (they watch a lot of Anime)

Download it here (the link's after the lyrics)

Haha... cute in all the best (and worse) ways possible. Sounds like a parody of the band Live's later '90s material.

Not something I can see casually listening to.

The mix is solid. The bass synth could be a tad louder. Really tough to give feedback, it's rather unique.

Thanks, Pinky. I think that's the first time I've gotten a Live comparison!

Doesn't sound too far off done for me VHS - I think the snare is too loud though, it kind of dominates everything. The vocals sound a little low, but this may be a symptom of the aforementioned snare - they may be at the right level if that was sorted.

I'm still making my mind up whether I think there's a little too much distortion on the drums too - be interesting to hear what others think.

Other than that, it's your usual catchy tuned, well played, interestingly arranged sound :)

Lol. This is crazy. It's like a demented pop song. I dunno, it sounds good. Your stuff is difficult to critique since everything is supposed to sound weird. Raise the vocals and guitars some.

Less snare, more vox and guitar, maybe less distortion on the drums. OK. I'll try to find time to do a new mix soon. Thanks!

Echo the comments on the snare. Plus, the tone of the snare just doesn't work well with those double-time kick/snare parts.
I'd like to hear a little more meat in the kick, a good solid thump. :) Find a good balance for the whole set.
I think the vocal take in the intro is weak, you should definitely redo it and try to sell it better. I like the interplay of the instruments in the intro.

I like the arrangement and how you got it all working towards the end. Especially like the harmonies in the choruses.

Another great VHS hit!!!

Thanks Chili. I was going for a sort of dubsteppy sound with the kick and snare on the into, but as you can see I clearly have no idea what I'm doing! :D

Ok. I'll revisit those tones (hopefully I'll have time to do another mix tomorrow evening.)

Ok. Second mix is up at the same location. Different EQ on the kick. Different EQ and reverb on the snare in the intro. Less snare overall. More vox. More guitars.

Lemme know what you think!

The staggered drum beat of the intro had me uncomfortable for a moment. After that it was fine - Anime is creeeping in from Flaming Lips (this is not dissimilar to the) to this mob.
Follow the other directions and see if it works - not that this is supposed to sound like solid rock or anything approaching it.
I like it.

Thanks RayC. Yeah, the weird syncopation on the kick doesn't play nicely with the ritard, but I kind of like it.

Heh. I just noticed that the last 9 or so posts to the clinic were you commenting on every thread! A once a week Clinic binge, hmmm? :D
