New to this forum, so first thing is to introduce myself.
my name's Olivier I live in London although being French and do produce electronic music (or at least I'm trying). Having been classicaly trained (15 years in a music school, learning classical violin) my music is focused on experimentation on and complementarity of rythm vs. harmony

Like most home recording musicians, I have grown my own home studio over the years (started it all back in '96). I chose to base it around a proper mixture of old school gear (Ensoniq ASR10, Roland Juno60, even my old violin, analog outboard, etc.) and digital technology (effects, sequencing, etc.).

Having worked on my music during most of my free time (not a lot that is, between job, girlfriend, friends, holidays, family etc.) it took me quite a while before beginning to be satisfied. I'm now at a stage where I feel more and more confident about my production.

The sort of music I do want to produce is quite laid back and atmospheric although I keep an eye on what's happening in the more dancefloor-orientated production (being a resident DJ in a local club). Influences are very broad , from classical music to jazz, rare groove and funk. My favorite artists of the moment would be Herbie Hancock's old stuff, Volker Meitz, Modaji, DJ Vadim, Kid Koala, Plaid, Howie B but this is a constently evolving thing as I am quite a bit of a vynil junkie (I buy between 10 and 30 vynils a month)

I would really appreciate your feedbacks from a very technical point of view. But feel free to flame me and give artistic opinions.
I'm quite ready to be offended as anyone should be in the music industry !!!

some tracks here are quite old so I would really appreciate you giving me more feedbacks on the latest productions :

Also feel free to check www.luminaweb.com

this is my "crew" website. Taho is Lumina's head and you can find our music on the mp3 section

Cheers gentlemen,

Olivier Tison

simply great!

remembers me at stuff Trüby, Kruder, Jazzanova and Demon Flowers droped the last years.

btw there is a new sofa surfers album out now (and a few remixes r in the pipe);)

what equipment did u use on wheels of funk?
i guess there is heavy use of akai (the flanger sounds like the old S1000 EB board)

greets,
Mark

u definitely should press a whitecopy and send this to your landsman petterson...

Thankx

Thanks struberg I take that as a compliment (I am simply in love with the sound you're talking about: Jazzanova, Truby, Kruder and all). Do you make music as well ? If you want I can review your stuff

Also, just wanted to say there's a new track posted yesterday.
It's a remix of one of my former tracks. This is a different mood this time - uptempo atmospheric drum&bass - employs various synthetic textures (substractive synthesis, samples, comb filtering, ring modulation...) to create a kind of "fractal" dub version of the original "Wheels of Funk" track

I just want opinions on the overall sound as I'm not sure about this one... Just had a late night session yesterday to get it finished but I would really appreciate feedbacks on the overall sound balance

thanks again

Olivier

Struberg -> Wheels of Funk makes an extensive use of the good old Ensoniq sound (ASR10) but there's a great deal of post recording effects on that one.. all done in Cubase 5.1

Sofa Surfer -> dunno but I'll check it out. Only got their 2 first albums and really enjoyed them..

BTW I can see you're from Vienna, I'm going here over this week-end to visit some friends of mine and I was wondering if there was any chance to see (and listen) the likes of Kruder/Dorfmeister Sofa Surfers or anyone from the Grow! label (Hi Lo, Memory Fundation, etc.)

I know Vienna quite well as my ex was from there but it's been quite a while now (back in '96 when K&D were no international stars) and dont know the scene anymore... any advice ? (apart from the good old bermuda triangle?)

cheers mate,
Olivier

Hey OT,

I'm a big fan of K&D, listen(ed) to their records 'til I die and on that note must say I love your stuff. I read a post you had on another thread about going for a more live feel less midi and I'm totally with you there, your stuff is very well put together, the sound is great and the progression of each track is smoth and soulful, some of the best stuff I've heard here, would definitely pay 12 bucks to buy an LP, keep it up man!

send me 12 bucks then I'll send you the thing... :-) Thanks anyway your comment is really helpful and encouraging. it comes just at a point where I need it : I am just having a few tracks mastered properly these days by a friend of mine with the appropriate equipment (main monitors and good ears mostly)... then I'll send a demo of 4-5 tracks to about 20 record labels... maybe a shot in the dark but at least it's worth trying !
thanks guys

oh i forgot to mention:

There is one REALLY IMPORTANT thing:

Burn a cd with your songs and send it to yourself before u send the cds to the record companies. DONT OPEN THE PACKET but store the closed packet at a save location.

If one of the record companies you sent the promo cd's afterwards announces YOUR music without your approval or with the name of a different artist on the cover you easily grab your packet and go to the court...
The postage stamp date will prove your authorship

Another way, that is taken a little bit more seriously in court situations, is to put a copy in a saftey deposit box at the bank.

Not very expensive at all, but you can ask the bank admins notarize everything put in and taken out, therefor come court time, you can prove when it was done.

The postal thing doesn't always work in courts up here, since it's easy to fake postal stamps, and they are not always marked....
