Don,

I hafta say it again. Your cover on "If I Fell" is nothing short of outstanding. It is one one of my very favorite Beatle songs and you guys pulled it off perfectly. Cant quit listening to it. Great job man!

Most of the credit must go to my big bro. He did most of the work. It was my idea, though. :)

Thanks again.

Maybe you missed my question: Have you been on LI for a long time (since the mid-70's or so)?

Don,
Yes, I grew up in Island Park (south Nassau County). I left from 73-77 while I was in the service. A lot of musicians came from that town.

Nice work on the Lady Madonna cover. I'm surprised to hear it pulled off so well.

My brother and his friend with the home studio were in a popular bar band of that era. You may have seen them if you ever went to Solomon Grundy's, OBI, or the like. They specialized in covering 60's music.

anyone gonna cover; I want you so bad "she so heavy" I just love that song :)

Thanks for the snaps guys.
I do sound for a Beatles tribute band, so I get to mix these songs live. I'd guess that 95% of people who know Beatles music, have never heard the songs performed live, with the authentic gear - Rickenbacker 325, Gretsch Country Gentleman , Hofner bass, Epiphone casinos, Ludwig drums. And no doubt, there is a vested interest on the bands part to sound as authentic as possible.

Lots of people forget that they were to a totally smokin live band.

Anyway... here's another: She's a Woman

There's other mp3's on the website - click on "Songs"

but only a couple with worthy production value!
OK, so where can we find them?

This thread is very entertaining....

I have hack versions of practically e'thing posted on this thread, thus far.

It kinda boils down to what'ya wanna hear? A named tune? Tunes in Lofi? Tunes in Hifi? My best? My worst? Older ones? Newer ones? Live? Produced? I have Beatles covers that span the range! Some of my decent efforts could be wildly embarrassing! Should I post my versions of songs posted so far?

Eh,... I have trouble deciding which tune to post! (I'm so confused!)  ;)

Have you got a cover of Hey Jude?

How about Can't Buy Me Love?

Is there one that you're most proud of?

DonF...

There's a portion of "Can't Buy Me Love" on the website, under the the CD "Better Than Live".

Most proud? hmmmm... actually nearly all of them :)
Here's one just recently recorded. Everything is LIVE, no dubs, or re-takes, as are all of these recordings.

I’m really liking listening to all these. Great work guys. I’m noticing how many of them were done by family members playing together. I think one of the things that initially attracted me to the Beatles was the fact that they were friends as kids (well, 3 of them anyway, heh-heh) and worked their way up from that instead of being a professionally created band. Almost like they were a group of brothers… they even looked a lot alike. A sad thing when they broke up.

… Track Rat, the production and performance quality on those two tunes is top notch.

Dogman, yeah, I've been kind of tied up with things lately and haven't been able to hang out as much.

Ooh! ooh! I have one too!!

I'm anxious to get some feedback on this one. I've been working on it for about 2 or 3 weeks and was really glad to see this thread come up.

Guess what it is! I haven't titled it so as not to bring attention to it - it is a cover after all - and I'll remove it soon enough. It's my own arrangement with me on classical guitar, fretless bass, lap steel, and midi drums.

I think it represents my best effort to-date for trying to capture a good nylon string guitar tone. I used an CAD M179 about 2 feet in front and an AT4041 up by my left ear and over the guitar. I think I can hear my own breathing (or could be snare brush?). Next time I'll try wearing a bandana around my face bandito-style. Anyone else come across this problem?

Man, there's little forgiveness in recording fretless instruments! It was not easy hitting the target notes on bass and lap steel. How aggregious is it to you? Maybe I should try that thing I heard about... um, practice!

I hope this doesn't get lost in the thread cuz like I said, I'd really appreciate some feedback!

Addendum:
Oh yeah, I plan to have my 17yr old daughter add some vocal tracks. Giving her something to work on as a vocal exercise was the motivation for doing this.

You could try these: http://www.breatheright.com/products/nasal_strips.asp

:)

Nice sound. The intonation didn't bother me too much. I think your approach to the song is very fresh and original. I think it would be a good exercise for someone to write a new melody and lyrics to go with the track you have there. As long as you take out any recognizable hooks or signature licks, you'd have a completely new, original song.
