THat sounds awesome ,man!

Very nice big sound. Not overly bright, and totally in-your-face.

Did you use any reverb?if you did, it sounds like you were simulating a small room.

cool job.

Good singer too.

awesome job! ...well done!......nice voices!.....

thats a big endoresement for C1,Mackie,and Delta......

Sounds good. Nice tight harmonies. Vocals sound very smooth. Did you do much processing on that?

Excellent choice of cover!

I've just been playing over and over again the Beach Boys of this era. Especially Don't Worry Baby.

Anyway, I like the reverb - is that a plug-in?
It might be the MP3 encoding, but some of the vocals sound a BIT (and I mean a tiny, tasteful bit) flanged or phased a bit.

Boy the harmonies are nice, and your voice does a nice job of the vocals. Although I love Brian Wilson, he is a bit nasally, which you avoid in a VERY good way. I'm playing a CD re-release against yours, and I like yours better. Only the tremelo guitar in the original is the only thing I like better. Also, I like your tamborine or hi-hat better than the bell-like thing they used.

VERY good job. I thought you sounded very much like Brian Wilson.

I also hear the flanging thing that Eric J mentioned.

Thanks for the input everyone. Glad you liked it. To answer some of your questions:

There is both a reverb and a chorus plugin on the voices. The reverb is a plate reverb (Waves RVerb). The chorus effect is a plugin that's native to Sonar (FxChorus).

I imagine the flanging (or processing??) that you guys are referring to is the chorus plugin. It seems to me that the Beach Boys did A LOT of multi-tracking of their vocals. In the original of this particular song, I believe you can actually hear Brian Wilson in both your right and left ear if you wear headphones. Anyway, I thought the chorus plugin on the voices gave it somewhat of this "Beach Boys" effect, without actually doubling the tracks. So... does it work?

Thanks again.
Mike

did you do all of the vocal parts on this? or you just sing one part? Also, did you use any "studio magic" to tighten up the harmony? Like, I have seen before where some people will take two wave forms, and..bleed the edges of them together...to make that better than humanly possible harmony. Not saying yours sounds like that...just sounds really really good. like it a lot.

Wes - I didn't do all the parts. There are 4 different singers on the song - but I'm one of them :)

We first recorded this as a single take with all 4 voices together, and then we went back and dubbed each voice one at a time, while erasing the corresponding vocal from the original tracks. The main reason for this was to control the bleed between tracks, and also to allow each singer to be able to use the C1 mic (we only own one).

We also punched in (overdubbed) a couple of "corrections" when it was necessary. Does that come under the heading of *studio magic*??

(BTW, I never heard of - and don't understand - the concept of bleeding the edges of waves together. However, if you think our harmony doesn't sound "humanly possible", I guess I'll take that as a compliment - even if I don't happen to agree with you. It does takes some work though.)

haha - yeah rereading my post it was kind of vague as to what i meant. sorry. nah i totally compliment your harmonies..I don't exactly understand the edge bleeding thing myself. It was something someone showed me one time....(over a remote pc view)...it was like in vegas audio i belive, they took the upper frequencies of 2 vocal tracks and converged them or something. I don't know...anyone have any clue what i am talking about? Who knows. At any rate - your vocals/harmonies sound great...all i meant was they sounded great but at the same time natural...doesnt sound like "studio magic". (btw, overdubbing is a must! for me at least. heh)

Great sound! It's one of my favorite Beach Boys tunes, and you guys did a really nice version. Excellent. I use a C1 also, and I love it. Now you just need to buy 3 more so you don't have to re-record each track next time! :)

Holy cow. I'm quite blown away by the quality of that performance.

(shaking head) I thought I could sing...

:)

Thanks, Wes. If you ever figure out the "bleeding edge" trick let me know, you never know where you'll find a use for things (and it could turn out to be easier than actually having to sing the parts :D ).

Leahkim - you wouldn't happen to have an extra $690.00 lying around for those three C1's would you :) . Actually, even with the extra mics we would still have the track-to-track bleeding problem, since our studio (aka basement) has no sound treatment or isolation capabilities. It's creates problems, for example, if someone comes in a little early and then it's on all the other tracks. And the way the C1 picks up, it would certainly be on the other tracks.

Chris - thanks for the compliment, but I keep thinking about how the Beach Boys had to write the song, then create the harmony parts, AND perform them. In comparison, we only had to copy the parts and sing them.

Thanks to all for listening.

I wanna stream, I wanna stream ;)

Please enabled streamy for little waldy?

W.

Hey Waldo -

Do you still allow the low-fi streaming? I refuse to allow anyone to listen to my stuff at that quality level (it's bad enough at .mp3 level). If you give me the option to allow just hi-fi streaming, then I'll do it.

Please, please

Ick, ya, I can turn it off for your song.... There is special optimization features planned for lo-fi alternatives, since, well, everything is going to go lo-fi in a while for a while, because I got no money to support hi-fi bandwidth right now...

Anywho, go ahead, turn it on, flags are already shut off for lo-fi.

W.

Ok, done. I enabled all 3 songs for streaming.

Is everybody happy?? :)

holy crap! 256kbps VBR!

Lol, well, used alot of bandwidth up on this one ;) But it was worth it :)

Very well done, only thing is that it seems a tiny bit... slow... But for acapella, balanced very appropriately as far as I'm concerned!

W.

Wow man, I have to say...this sounds great. I'm impressed with just about every aspect of it. Its a great recording...you really maximized the potential of your gear on this one (which warms my heart because aside from Sonar, I've got an identical rig and have been thinking about a C1:D ).

Job well done man!
