Rock Steady
I wanted to see if the bass would get swallowed in a mix so i added a few instruments to check it out. This was sent to mp3 without spending a lot of time tuning the mix and I hit it hard with some eq in SF so its a little tinny, the real one doesnt have all those horns in it now either, but I thought I`d share with you guys anyways. Maybe it dont suck too bad.

Nice man I felt like looping it and sitting back with a gin and juice.

I can't make out the ...hmm ... not the bass or drums, is that keys in the back? I'd like to hear more of it. Nice horns.

the mix is very clean.........everything has its own defined space, which is good...........

not bad.....not bad at all

Bass sits fine.....I like your horn patch....it pretty good sounding and your choice of phrasing helps it sound more real. Drums sound good....I agree the keys could come up ( clavinet? ) This of course, is my type of stuff. I likes it!

well goodness, I really didnt think anybody would say much about this. I didnt spend time eq`ing it right and just sorta threw it together to see if it would glue, and to hang out with you guys. Drum levels needed tweaking to match things up better. I've since taken some of the horns out in places. I'm keeping this one but not posting the whole thing cause it`s kinda long and has a few more movements in it and no singing or lead instrument. I have fixed the mix in it though.

I`m using an old korg dw8000 as midi controller, Live value card, a Tascam m30 mixer, and a jazz bass.
The instruments are a dark piano, clavinet, analog synth, brass, bass, and drums.
I used a sound font called bluejay drums on this one.

I started out trying with that Don Henley backing thought somebody put on me from that last thing I posted, but I was little down and blue from old age, so I was feeling more of a sweaty wrinkled tux Delbert McLinton.
JR, Powder',Bully, thanks...... :)
Fenderlikingood, I wish I could take you to am old all black club I used to go to. The band played the whole night without taking but maybe one break. All the players around would show up and folks would just swap out till there wasnt any funk left.
LT, thanks, comin from you, I take my hat off.
I do thank yall for listening, if ya liked it... thats all I do it for. And I appreciate the commments.
Maybe I`ll get this HomeRec thing worked out before long.
To cop words of one I got lotsa 'spec for.. TR says "put some ass in it!"

Hey Toki,
...Nice to see youre still jamming with this. The additions sound nice....... ...can we expect to hear a layer of vocs next?:)
I got a R. Palmer vibe off of this one.
Nice work man.

Jammin away to low-fi horns ;)

The bass seems to have its own place, but whatever is in the very background is difficult to hear.

I like the drums... I really need to get a drum machine lol :)

Thanks,

Adam

hey tokie,i had to break out my tele and put some wah wah to that.i think the bass should be a little louder .very good job man.
we have got to jam one of these days.

love your bass tone! Nice and low but clear in the high end too-shoot wheres the horns? I'd like to hear the keys some more-this groove is ripe for jammin to-do you mic your bass or DI? I want a bass sound like this!! Nice jamming material.

Kool funk groove, got my toes tappin to this for sure. Loved the bass, would of loved to hear the horns you had on this. Great funk Ken!

It kinda reminds me of a slowed down version of that song, 'mine as well face it your addicted to love.' I think it was by the Power Station..

Nice horn patch..

there is still something that is making your mixes not sound as clear as they should, but i have no idea what it is.. Maybe a sound card issue or something.. Maybe it's just me...

it's coming along quite nicely dude..

Thanks G. I like this one quite a bit too. It`s saved for some more work later. I have some voc lines for some of these. maybe I`ll do scary tune and sing a little. :)

I appreciate the listen. The background sound is a piano, synth, clavinet mixed a little too close together for the mp3 clip. I`ve brought the synth and piano out from under the clav on the original.

I think you were listening to baskit, baskit3 has the horns.
the bass is thru a Levelar>Tascam m30> Sonar>Timeworks comp> eq.

hehehe, thank you. you been there since I started step 1 on this lil venture, I appreciate you. You really want me to give up that $28 sound card dont you? :p
I think it`s a combination of the chip and me. I`ve decided this whole thing is doable and I been lovin it. 'am looking at some viable components to take me to the next level in clarity.
