Since the tones are totally different, no matter where you move the tracks in the time line, you will create some kind of phase cancellation and phase coupling. What is very important is how you want the combined tracks to sound. Without figuring that out, everything else is just pure crazy talk! There is truly no "right" way to align the tracks.
I know the look of the wave forms will be different...but I also know that there will be patterns in the wav forms that you can detect and align. At that point, yes, please use your ears. I'd never try to tell someone to mix visually.
