Bass DI Box

Right now I use my ART Tube MP Preamp to record bass direct but its noisy and I want to upgrade. What kind of bass DI boxes are on the market that can help me get a good bass sound with DI ?
 
The Countryman is real nice. I like my Hughes & Kettner B.A.T.T. but it's actually a pre amp.
 
I have two of the Sansamp Bass Drivers and use them for both bass and rhythm guitar. They are a little pricier than some of the other brands, but are highly adjustable.

You can also use them as a stomp box for live performances.
 
i would use either a Countryman DI or Johnson J-Station....i did get a surprisingly good bass sound from my newly acquired Joe Meek VC3Q........
 
I've used my POD as a bass driver, with the tube preamp model... sounds pretty sweet. But it's not worth buying a POD just for this.
 
I have a Peavey SessionBass. Although it is a bass head, it has a direct out. I think it sounds excellent. It works great on accoustic guitars too.
 
I have the DI-100 and love it. It's a really clean sound though. Nothing special.

I have the Sansamp Bass Driver and was a little disapointed with my recorded tone untill I added the ART Tube Pac now it is rich, punchy and yummy.

I have heard alot of good stuff about the Countryman and would like to compare someday.

Those are supposed to be pretty good. Do a search on it. Some good recommendations. Very cheap, too.
 
The Zoom 506II eliminated all the problems I had with recording bass.. Check it out and see if it suits your needs..

You know Cyrokk, I have had one of the 506 II for a year and have never used it for anything but live use. I figured if I used it for recording; it would be to mix an effect into the recorded dry signal.

Next time I record I think I will run the bass DI into two channels - one for my Sans Amp and Tube Pac set up and one for the the 506 II and compare how they mix. I knew it had an amp simulator type stuff but I did not think it would compare with a dedicated DI for recording.

Could be interesting.
 
How does that Behringer DI perform? I looked at the Countryman's on eBay and I can't get them, I'm on a budget and it'll take me a while to save since I just bought 2 new mics last week.

I haven't been quite fond of Behringer stuff in the past but I hear some of their stuff is good.

They work very well. I have two, and they do an excelent job. For bass recording, you should get something with a preamp to give you that extra punch or liveliness. I have found that a straight bass sound can be dull or flat sounding. (Not flat as in the tuning sense, but in depth.)
 
I connect the Ultra DI into one of the pre's on my mixer, and the result is great for my taste. I often proccess it afterwards with some software compression, and even some eq., but it sepends on the song, and the effect you are trying to achieve.
I also have 2 Behringer DI's, and they work great for both bass tracks and for my keyboard.

Aren, why would you need a DI for keyboard?

I ran a pretty long line from my keys to the mixer, which crosses a 220V socket. With an unbalanced line, it picked up strange hums and noises. Now I ran a short line from the kyboard to the DIs, and then a balanced line into my mixer's line input. Sometimes, I plug it into two pres, is some additional gain is necessary (sounds better with some presets).

i get a great bass sound out of the joe meek vc6q...plus...it has a fantastic mic pre, phantom power, analog eq, and an optical compressor (one of the reasons the bass sounds so good). Its very versatle for vocals and instruments....I HAVE to stre e e e e etch my dollars. The stand alone bass direct boxes were too pricey and limited to one instument (for my shoestring budget).
