So i have a Peavey TNT100 Bass Amp and its pretty nice i guess but the problem is i dont have a bass anymore. I play all my keyboards and guitar through it. I usually dont like the sound i get out of it and end up using headphones. I am thinking of gettin a mixer (so i could plug all my keyboards and guitars into it with only two outputs) and some powered speakers/ monitors. So basically my question is what is the disadvantage of doing this? no eq? Is this posible to do wiht out any real amplifier? If this is a good option, does anyone have any recomendations for monitors? lower price range maybe $200-$400 thanks all

Hi there,,

Well that is obvious that you get not the best sound with your amp, as bass amp is designed to sound best with bass guitars.

If you will get a mixer, you will have acceptable results with bass and keyboards but still the guitar sound will not be any good. Guitar sound consists of guiyat itself and the guitar amp with speaker. All three parts of equation contribute evenly.

So if you want to live without the guitar amp and speaker, you need something to simulate it.

Like this

Now monitors.

When selecting a monitor two thing have to be considered. The monitor has to be as "honest" as possible, meaning it has to have the linear responce all over the frequencies range. The second, it obviously has to be pleasant to your ears. Here we come to the compromise. In most cases "pleasant" would mean some distortions. But you have to take into accound that you will spend hours listening to the monitors and you should not let you ears get tired of it. That is why I speak of compromise.

The monitors I have

KRK RP8G2 Rokit G2

According testing with sliding frequency generator this monitor is very linear with minor little drops in low and high rfrequencies, but what is important with no distortions at all! Sounds nice to my ears also.

Cheerz!!
