Basic mixing software - help?

Hello guys, can anybody suggest a basic voice recorder and sound mixing software package and where I can get it please. I am a Hypnotherapist and I wish to put together some CD's where I will record my voice speaking a script with a background of relaxing music. Most of the software offers either just basic voice recording capabilities, or something that offers far more than I need for an awful lot of money. Does anybody have any suggestions please?

Unless you've got some audio experience, it might be more economical and time-efficient for you to go to an established studio rather than try to do it yourself.
What music are you planning to use? There's probably a legal aspect to reusing copyrighted material that you may have not considered.
 
Ah, I never thought of the copyright bit. Perhaps I should just go with the voice thing on its own. As for going into a studio, I wasnt planning on going that far. I am only just setting up my business and dont have much money to spend. But thanks for the reply.
