i have my laptop with cubase , keyboard/sequencer , condensor mic with all the cords and pwer pack , what do i need to plug the mic into ? do i plug the mic into a midi box? or is the midi box just used for hooking the keyboard to pc...please fill me in on what i need .. note ( for now im lookin just to do some cheap recording , i will work on quality after i learn the program )

thanks guys

you need to plug it into a mic preamp and the mic pre plugs into the input of your sound card

You need mic preamps. The bare minimum would be a Behringer (602?) mixer. Two preamps. That goes to the audio interface (sound card inputs) and you're golden.

thanks guys...would an audio mixer work ? an audio mixer without midi??? it has rca plug jacks

Ther is another potential problem here. You said laptop. What audio plugs does your laptop have? A computer soundcard usually has mono mic in , stereo line in, and stereo out. A great many laptops have only mono mic-in and headphones out.

The problem is this, not only is the mic-in mono but the mic-in uses the laptop's preamp, you can't really turn it off, and most soundcard, particularly laptops, on-board pre's are good for about telephone quality sound only. So to go for a decent recording from a laptop you are usually looking at an external USB sound interface. This will essentially be an external soundcard, Fortunately it will have good enough preamps to begin with. The most economical one for a beginner recording only two tracks at once is the MAudio MobilePre. A step up from that (but still offering only two channels) are the Edirol UA5 and MAudio Duo. To get more than two channels of recording you have to step up to a USB2 or Firewire connected device. This will take you up a couple hundred higher in price.

the sound has 3 little holes to plug stuff into ..lol... im assuming thats mono mic in , stereo in , stereo out .... what goes into them little holes????..lol

Yes, there are a lot of options. How many tracks do you want to record at once? What kind of budget do you have?

i just want to record one track at a time.. i use about 15-20 tracks in the whole song, with sounds& vocals but one at a time .

If you can check your laptop documentation then see if one of them is a line-in. Then you will want to go from your preamp to that input. Then look at something like the Audiobuddy or DMP3 as a basic preamp.
