Bad mixing day?

I'm sure I read somewhere that when it gets like this you should try panning all the guitars to one side of the mix and all the keyboards to the other then come at it again.
Apparently that's supposed to help or something.

What if there's no keyboards or guitars ?

haha, I've never heard that, but whatever, there's lots I haven't heard.

I think a better option is to save a copy of the mix that isn't working (just in case I screw it up worse), pull all the faders to zero, all the panning to center and start over. Kick->bass->snare->rhythm guitars->......... Or whatever order you usually work in.

START OVER...sometimes it saves a bad mix.

I don't get bad mixing days, I must be one of the lucky ones as I am consistent in my work from day to day.
I can get tired as everyone does so I suggest taking regular short breaks every few hours to give your ears a rest.

I find I do best when I have 2 or more songs to mix at once. That way when I hit that wall, and I always do, I can switch gears and keep moving. I'm working on a mix now, and I just can't seem to get the guitars to shine. The guitar player thinks it sounds good, but I'm not happy with the tone. I've sat on it for about a week now, not touching anything. I'll probably give it another couple days and try again.

So, in summation, I often have bad mixing weeks, but it's usually when I only have one mix to focus on.
