Background hiss noise in a professional mic. Do i need a pre amp?

The UCA202 is designed for instruments and line level devices like a CD player or mixer. It won't work with a microphone. Microphones put out a signal around 40dB lower than line level sources (which is why they need an interface with a pre amp built in).
 
Good advise... A Audio interface is what you start with. The fast track is as good as you will do on a PC with USB. If you have firewire I would look at Focusrite as a step up from anythig USB. And on another note. $70.00 does not buy a pro mic. That starts at around $250.00
 
He may have been referring to condenser microphones.
 
It's silly to put an exact price on the line between "pro" and "non-pro", regardless. Or to even call some mics "pro" and some not, for that matter.
 
This is so true. There are many examples for both sides of the fence.

True that, plus we don't know if it's new or used. He could have a bargain on a 219 or something?!

I've got about twenty mics, and I'd say more of them were under $70 than were over it.

I aim for <$70 for any mic :P

For gaming and listening to movies, yes. Good for audio recording, no.

Get 'sound card' out of your head. You need to search for an 'audio interface'.

I got a reply that a pre amp is needed. Rather it isn't necessary that the pre amp is expensive. A cheap one will do the work too. Is this right?
 
Well, yes, but you need to be looking for an interface that actually has a preamp.

Many examples have already been given. Here is another.
 
The Asus Xonar is designed for gaming and 7.1 playback of DVDs. It's NOT what you want for any serious recording--buying a good pre amp and plugging it into the Xonar would be a bit like putting a lawn mower engine into a Rolls Royce.

Agreed. An audio interface with one or two built in preamps is a great starting point.
