Toki987 - Thanks for checking out both mixes! Glad you liked it!

joro - Thanks, man! I agree, the clinic has helped me a lot and I owe a bunch to everyone who helped me to improve my skills.

skids - Thanks for checking out the song. We weren't completely going for a 100% retro sound as much as a style of writing in the song but, yes. You are right on the money about your comments on the kit sounding too modern for the genre.

About Boca being a sleepy little place, I think you are right about that too. My Buddy Doug wrote this song, music and lyrics and it was his first visit there many years ago and probably all the real fun he had was more out of town but he slept there and I guess the words just seemed to flow better with Boca rather them Ft. Lauderdale, Miami or Daytona.

Artistic license, I think they call it?:D

MC Gitarz - Once again, you were there for me and I thank you for checking out the tune on both versions. I think I like the newer mix, myself at this point after a few hundred listens.......My ears hurt!

Thanks again to everybody here for your ears and your helpful advice!

Cheers! :)

surfing U.S.A. you got that surf thang going on here. I love it. little duece coop, and all, except the guitar tone you got is better. have you seen Dick Dale in the car commercials?

What a fun tune! I can totally picture David Lee Roth's "California Girls" video to this song. :D

The drums didn't sound too bad for a machine! The vox were very nice... you have a good clean, solid voice.

Nice overall.

Nice drums, especially the kick in the beginning. It's a full kick, authentic with boompf, but not boomy or bothersome.

The quality of the baritone hooking vox is not crisp enough. It's as if the opposite of sibilance is happening, there's not 'enough' sibilance to make that hook easily understandable. Now the lead vox is nice and live.

I'd enhance that baritone track, and relieve it of some of the verb.

Great performance on the lead vox and its doubling.

The baritone hook gets better, but it could stand a considerable amount of crisping.

If you wanted to caputure this era, without covering something ... you did it. Spot on beach genre, bigtime.

I'd like to hear a few centered horn passes, could throw a huey lewis kink into it, and you really do horns well.

Good vox on the intro.

Really nice job of capturing that classic rock feel. The leads especially got that 'Marty McFly' feel. Like the low "Boca's" Good melody and delivery to the lead vox.

Solid performances all around, however something mixwise is distracting me. Do you have the bass panned hard to the right? I'm finding like the mix is wrapping around me rather than coming towards me. There are some points where it feels like the mix starts to crumble on the high ends, most noticeably during cymbal hits.

Old Sckewl stlyle =yeh!

Maybe it's just what I'm listening on, but it sounds like the bass guitar is distorted on the newer mix. It seems really loud and forward. It's actually getting in the way of the vocals.

But it may just be my speakers.

I do like the song. Good job of capturing the surf vibe. Yeah, the guitars aren't true surf, but they work.

Vocals are stellar!:D

But, that bass drum is very distracting to me.

EDIT- I went back and listened to the older mix and the bass drum problem is not there. The bass drum sounds much better.

A nice fun toe tapper. The tag line is I'm sure something Jimmy Buffet wishes he had thought of.

I like that big thumping bass. Nice part. Borders on being too boomy, but I think it'll work.

I liked the keys - had a surfer song sound.

Real tight performances. Guitars are cool, but might be just a little too fuzzy.

Sounds like the lead vocal track was split and delay processed. I'd say to maybe shorten the delay just a bit. It's just a tad too "delay-ish."

Cool. Trip...
