Hey guys so I decided to wait until Black Friday hoping that prices on equipment will go down and they have

so originally i was planning on buying the m-audio fast track pro for about $200 and a mxl v67g large condenser microphone about $100 along with some accessories. However, i came across these deals on the internet that claim large sales.

these things have the whole package and are a lot cheaper. It would be great if i could get some advice on which of these packages is the best deal and which ones are the best for me.

I'm looking to record vocals/singing.

thanks a bunch. below are the links

im looking for a package under $500. Because I care most about sound quality so i guess I'm more focused on the mic, preamp, and maybe speaker monitors (i think). Please help me out. I'm a noooooob

Spam-u-late som' mo' "m00sichunz fren'z "discount dealz"?
C'mon playa', quit the "hype game" you slingin' b-4 U get yr @ss banned like "Roll On"!

I'd check out deals on Amazon, Musician's Friend sells through them, but you also have Amazon's backing. MF can be decidedly unfriendly when things don't go well. They tend to play nice when you buy through Amazon though.

Black Friday deals generally come out on Black Friday BTW.

This "noooooob" thinks he is getting deals! Roflmao

alright thanks for the weird slang and sarcastic remarks
i guess ill just stick with what i was gunna get before

I've never had any problem whatsoever with them and I've bought probably 20 grand worth of stuff from them over the last 10 years.
The couple of times I had something come in broken, they replaced it with no problem or argument.
The one time I didn't like something they took it back ..... no problem.
And once when there was a mixup and something wasn't available anymore ..... they gave me a coupon for an extra 20% off anything I bought up to 5000 dollars worth of stuff. So I immediately bought 5 grand worth of stuff I'd been wanting.

I see negative comments about MF all the time but I've had great service from them thru the years.

All of those so called deals from MF are not as they appear .... if you look at the bottom of the description of the gear they are clear out items that they have to get rid of for they are to be discontinued. So they bundle up a bunch of sh!t in hopes of selling it off.

You would be better off as you originally planned and piece together a quality system that will have you on the straight and narrow road of recording for years to come.

It's deals like that which dissolution many people from continuing to record after getting a bunch of crap thrown in their lap instead of having what is right for them from the get go.

ok thanks guys. i almost fell into the trap

btw

do recording equipment usually go on black friday deals?

Oh I still deal with them, you can get some great deals from them.

The moral of the story ?
One lieutennant's meat is another shortedaman's poison.
A moresound in the hand is worth two buzzards in the bush.
Discontinued stuff isn't necesarilly a bad thing.
Discontinued things aren't necesarilly bad stuff...

Of the deals shown, the first one is the only one with a computer interface, and it's not a real bad deal. I would stick with your original plan. I'm not a fan of the MXL990, and of all of the above, I'd prefer a fast track and a V67G. The BX5a's don't really suck, but they are designed to work with a subwoofer, and are therefore bass-weak. Everybody has a point. Yes- when you see stuff bundled, there's a reason- because they have more units than they can sell. That can be because the unit sucks, or just because they made too many of them. This often means you can find them cheaper on ebay or Craig's list. And- I've never had a problem with Musician's Friend. They're one of the few outfits that gives me a price break for being an ASCAP member. On the other hand, I do most of my business with 8thstreet.com, who have almost never screwed up.
What I don't understand is why so many people are busting a noob's ass because he asked if these are good deals. I've seen a lot more ignorant questions asked on the noob forum. It's OK- we were all noobs once. Give the guy a break.-Richie

Discontinued items are my bestest friend mate. My home theater is almost all clearance stuff, except the TV and I still got a great deal on it. All the components were replaced by stuff that was so insignificantly different it's not funny. Save half the price at least most of the time. My theater mains are Boston Acoustics Horizons, the big ones, retailed for 500 each, they discontinued them a few years back, got them for 130 a piece. Street price obviously wasn't 500, but it sure wasn't 130 either. They are great spokers, need to be paired with a moderate sub, but they sound amazing. With few exceptions (the MXL 2003A comes to mind) a discontinued item is essentially identical in all the ways that mean anything to its replacement.

I guess I'll be going with my original plan then
thanks guys for the info

I'm still wondering if there's a "best time" to buy this kind of equipment. usually every industry has a time of year when prices drop down temporarily

Best time may be black Friday for the deals on singular items may be at a low but not every manufacturer will participate. And as we get closer to X-mas GC has that purchase now and take 12 months to pay for it promotion deal that they always run and it's as easy as pie to get their credit card and walk out with everything you need in about an hour.
