Hi.

As I am about too hang my 2' X 4' 100mm bass traps and am wondering if it is better to have an air gap behind them when they're hung on a wall?

Maybe 2 or 4 inches, or none?

Cheers, Ste.

Air space is good. 2 inches is a nice place to be.

Hi massive.

If I have my basic 2 X 1" frame going around the edge with the rockwool directly on top facing out, will this be ok?

There's a big hole in the frame to let the sound pass through.

My room is 11' X 11' X 8' high. I have heard that you should possibly have a 4" gap, or that the more you have the better. Not sure which is better. Just to be able to live in the room (as I sleep there as well) 2" would be much better as it wouldn't eat at much of the room space.

For bass traps, those which straddle corners (eg, wall-wall corners or wall-ceiling corners) you need not leave a gap at the edges as there is a gap behind the trap as it sits at 45° to both walls.

For broadband traps, those that hang on a wall and parallel to it, with a 100mm deep trap, 100 gap between it and the wall will give you the best performance and best value for money.

Totally agree with Cappricio. I have 2 inches gap for broadband traps for mine. That is how I built my traps. Works great.

Cheers.

I've rigged the traps with block of 2' X 1' on each corner. I've attached them so that you can swing the little corner blocks behind the traps the frame or out to the side using hinges. so you can have them out from the wall or flat to the wall when you're not using them. Gives you that little extra room when you don't use them. Really handy. Cheers for your advice guys, appreciated.
