Dinsdale,
Thanks for setting up
the Yamaha AW16G site. I registered today but won't have to cash to obtain one untill February.
Two questions;
Your user name always reminds me a Monty Python animated cartoon character of a large hedgehog that terrorized a city picking up cars, people and busses etc saying either "Dinsdale?" or "Doonsdale?" as if searching for someone.
Any relation to your screen name?
Question 2 for any one experienced with the AW16G;
I just picked up a new Mackie 1404 VLZ PRO at Mars closeout for $349 before I found out I would be getting a $1K (pretax)referral bonus and determined I would be able to swing an AW16G
So far I have in preamps 1 DMP3, 1 Joe Meek VCQ6 and an ART TubePac that I was using to "warm up" my SansAmp Bass Driver.
My question is will the Mackie 1404 still be of much use still if I will be only recording one track or two at a time for now? Or will I be better off just going straight to the AW16G?
I am not planning on doing any bands or enembles for now just myself and one or two other guitar players and vocalists. I only have 4 mics and some bass and guitar DI gear. No live drum sets in my near future unless I go portable somewhere.
The reason I am asking now is I just yanked my patchbay for a balanced one and have not reconnected anything yet.....I don't plan on doing much recording untill I can get the DAW and dump the cassette 4 track!
So I am trying to decide how to rewire my patchbay for a newly acquired Mixer (if needed) and the soon to be acquired DAW.
I looked in the "Set up" section at the new user group but no one mentioned using a mixer.
I get so little time to record right now I don't want to spend it all
trying to find the most effective "standard" routing set up. I don't mind spending some time on getting the signal chain, mic placement and gain staging right.
