Damn this place is a ghost town...

Anyway, quick question. Can you reverse the polarity of an incoming signal, or can you only do it after it's recorded. For example, I am recording a drum kit and want to mic the bottom of the snare, but I want it to sound as good as possible in the headphones, and, during repeated playbacks to tweak mic position, etc. Or do I have to do it after each take.

Actually, this might be more a hardware issue....Since the firepod I'm using has a direct monitor, in the headphones at least, the polarity would have to be flipped before ever getting into the computer.

Maybe I just need to rewire a XLR cable, and be done with it.

If the preamp doesn't have a polarity selector, I'd just make the XLR flipper if you really want it on the way in.

You could swap it later, but you're going for tones up front...
You'll want this. :D

Since most snare drums play at about 130 decibels and are also only about 16 inches from the drummer's head, I would think he shouldn't need any in the headphones at all. But if he insists, I would just send him the top mic anyway. I'm betting he'll never know the damn difference.
