i recently bought nearly 250 sq ft of auralex wedge foam off of ebay for dirt cheap. the only problem is this stuff smells. bad. cigarette smoke, dust, and beer smells now dominate the senses in my studio. i know this stuff is sensitive to chemicals, and therefore i would imagine it's sensitive to cleaning methods such as steam cleaning as well. at this point, i would almost be willing to risk deterioration over time in order to rid the funk. any ideas?
thanks.

I can't imagine it'd be an easy task - It's open-celled, so anything is going to go right through it and leave a residue.

You could always start smoking in there and you'll never notice it -

But seriously, I think you could do worse than simply lying the stuff down and hitting it with a hose. Try it with a piece or two. If it works out, you could lay it out on the lawn under a sprinkler for a while to let the water slowly migrate through.

I'd start with the "fins" up - You want those to be clean first - Otherwise, the residue is going to settle in them.

But whatever you do, try it with a chunk or two first.

...

i will go with the hose technique on a few pieces, since i have plenty of pieces worth experimenting with. and i'll contact auralex.
thanks.
